I had 1.2 with 33 on my 90 nightmare in steep hill start's and fifth became an overdrive, back to a 1.4 not prefect but nice enough.

Then id say you have a problem with your vehicle, Even with a slightly shagged engine my 110csw pulls away no problem on STEEP hills with a 1.2 on 33's and its loaded up with roof rent, steel roof rack and huuuugggee top box, along with storage drawers etc inside.

my 200 is on 37's with the 1.4 transfer box, it would only reach 55mph on hills and had to keep changing down as the going got tough, so fitted a hybrid turbo, it now powers up hill reaching 85mph before the rattling felt like re entry to the earth atmosphere

I've had a 200tdi and disco box with 7.50 tyres for nearly 2 years now. (Was N/A and std box)
Before the change I was in 5th at 30 mph and cruised at 50 on a A road
With a cold engine I now change to 4th at 30 and 5th at 40.
When the engine is hot it will trundle along at 30 in 5th, and I cruise at any speed limit.
The engine is of course quieter at any mph. Plus I'm getting. 32 mpg

Thats exactly what mine is like at the moment 30mph into 5th. Excellent news on what the 1.2 box does I'm on 235, 85, 16's

7.50 16
It pulls away no problem.

Dito, same tranny box and tyres on mine, but on a 200 TDI. It's worth pointing out that the military main gearbox also has lower ratio 1st and 2nd gears - which should help out when towing or on very steep hills. There's always low box of course.

Do you know what one was in it? My 90 gets to 55 and I dont want to go any faster because its feels like its reving a bit. I was going to get a Disc one done in the next couple of weeks along with two other things I need to do to him.

Sounds like you might have a 1.6 tranny box like I had. 3.5K revs was my max cruising speed before and used to get me 55 ish. Top speed was probably 65-70 but would have meant running at the governor which I'm not prepared to do. Acceleration was brisk by Landy standards. 1st gear was too low to use, I always used to set off in 2nd.

I have disco transfer box in my td5 , best thing I've ever done , glad I stumbled across this thread as I was wondering on tyre sizes , sounds like 33s work out ok wich makes me happy :) have already done egr delete, silicone hoses, de cat, snorkel ( hoping for slightly rammed cool cold air, soon to be re mapped as well , should give it plenty of grunt to get the wheels turning :) I haste to add that it's mainly for motor way driving!

I fitted one on the 90 this week, whereas I had to be in 5th at 30mph before I can now go into 5th at 45-50. It's a lot better on the main roads I can now comfortably chug along at 60-70.

In its defence it was a very very steep hill.
Have ran a few 200 over the years and would say its pretty much what I would expect from an old engine.
The one in my series is pretty much the same, has same ratio diffs as well.

Well did 140 miles this weekend and all is good, I did have to take the carpet out from under the accelerator pedle because I was not use to having to put my foot down with the old transfer box, but 70 is easy now and at 65 the engine seems not to be working hard at all.

Now if only I can stop the rear axel for being noisy.

The cable and the pedal are adjustable. I can't remember the full procedure but I'm sure the Haynes or WSM will detail it. I've adjusted it at the pump a couple of times. It's a service item to make sure your accelerator cable is correctly adjusted.
