How does 4x4 work on freelander 2 2009

Would someone please tell me how the 4x4 system works and what each button
does, and what changes when buttons are pressed on freelander 2 2009.

There are a lot of buttons. The one that sez start will be a good place to start.....

haldex clutch, electronically engages drive to rear wheels when ecu senses slipping / wheel spin, different modes alter responses to throttle, power steering, brakes, power distribution etc.

have you tried the excellently titled RTFM guide ? worth a read to answer these questions and many more.
