Well done! Thats looks like a really great job, I wish I had the expertese to change my radio for a double DIN unit and reading your post confirms it's beyond my ability. How much do you recon it cost, and how long did it take?

The unit cost me £220.00 and I spent about £40 on the other bits and pieces.

I worked on the project over a 2 week period, but probably spent less than 4 or 5 hours actually working on the car.

Thats a **** poor job tbh m8, come around and fit one for me for free and maybe you'll get it right the next time......im just so happy i can help you out this way, so please don't thank me ok?

If you read his post you would know that he did this replacement because his pixels had gone too...

As OXO says, the pixels on my unit were shot and I made an arse of trying to repair it myself, breaking the glass display screen.

You could get yours professionally repaired by guys who advertise on eBay for under £200.

I bought one on ebay and chopped it down to fit in the glove box so I can control the trip computer and clock. Some of the pixels have gone on this one, but it's perfectly useable.

How was the wiring interface for you? I'm in process of installing a Double din in mine, though my wiring seems to be different to yours?

Maybe cause mine had the Harmon Kardon 11 Speaker System and 1 Sub, with Original Satnav Screen. These are the Connectors I Have:

I'm going to attempt the full system replacement this weekend and part of next week. I've got the full mfd system - is that the connector at the back I can expect??

Also, garioch43 did you replace the amp? I'm installing an xtrons 717g device (head unit) and planning on running rca cables from the head unit to an amp under the seat - would a six channel or 8 channel amp be the best?? Then tapping the appropriate wires out of the back connectors and running them to the amp!! Does this sound right???

Any advice greatly appreciated....

Your system is COMPLETELY different to the one fitted to my HSE, which did not have a screen of any kind.

I did not replace my amp. The head (MID) unit fitted to my HSE is completely different from the screen based system in the Vogue. The speaker outputs from the head unit goes to the amp.

This guy has replaced his screen-based system with an an after market unit.

Am in a real quandary deffo putting xtrons head unit into vogue - will add old mfd in glove box re analogue clock etc! Now deliberating as to whether to just connect basic speaker config from iso connector from new head unit or run rcas into amp then into speaker config into boot!!!! Might go for belt and braces and do both but only connect amp to speakers later!!!!! Plus woofer!!! Basically it's my wife's car now (i commute by train into london) and she's moaning as she has no basic stereo capability!!!

I've got 10 days over Easter - set aside 2 for head unit!!! 2 more for amps, woofer etc.......

I'm not sure how the Vogue system is wired out. The MID system in my HSE had the amp in the rear which was connected by twisted pairs to the speaker outputs from the head unit.

If I were you, I would do a head unit swap using exisiting connections, but run the RCA leads to behind the glove box, where you can pick them up at a later date.

Have you factored in the need to alter the plastic heater hoses behind the head unit to make room for the new double DIN head unit?

I've decided to do as you suggest - use existing conns on the head unit for basic speaker config but run RCAs into the glovebox for future. The existing speakers are all wired into connectors in the boot which i'm going to tap off (FR, FL, RR and RL) and run to the head unit. The previous MFD install had the DSP amp, radio etc in the boot. All the speakers are connected through 3 connectors CO491, CO492 and CO493 - i'll do the mid and high range speakers once the amp is installed and i'm over teh initial trauma ;-) .

I've just ordered a 6 channel amplifier which i'll fit under the seat and connect up later.
Cannot say i'm looking forwards to the heating pipes - did you dremel a strip of them out from the top and then duck tape them back down or did you just use a heat gun and press on them then leave them to cool?

Any advice on heating pipes much appreciated - i'll be adding photos as the install goes ;-)

I carefully cut out the rigid plastic directly behind the head unit cradle with a Dremel tool and then gently heated the vent pipes and pushed them down and away from the area where the double DIN cradle needs to fit.

I wrapped silver duct tape round the vent pipes for extra insulation and to make it look a bit neater.

Well i'm nearly there -amplifier installed in boot and rigged up to the speakers - all tested with RCA to ipod connector.

Head unit successfully installed in plastic housing from dashboard. Just purchased the dremel cutting bits so that is this afternoon's job.

One big question without sounding moronic (i've spent a few hours on the job so far - my brain in getting a bit fried :-() - where did you pick up your switched positive? Everything else is wired in, i've spent a while on the 2 connectors on the front and there are 2 off permanent +ve supply and i cannot find a switched on on there........

Any help greatly appreciated..... Thanks again!!!

Looks and sounds amazing! Some minor tweaks required when i fix the pixels on the dash so i can do my minor additions then.....
