Tightening the belt might do the job or a new belt may be required, forcing the steering at full lock puts a lot of strain on the pump.

Sounds like a front wheel bearing to me, most likely the right front.

Just out of interest, how do you know the crank is at fault?

No mater what it's called if it was fitted with one from new it has to have one for the test, I think most testers will be turning a blind eye but you never know. Most people refer to the particulate filter as a cat. :)

Well unless it's been changed if a diesel vehicle was fitted with a particulate filter from new it requires one for the test. :)
