Disco 1 Erratic performance

I do the same journey every day to work same road. revs on cruise control sits at 2100 revs at 60 mph the whole time only raising to 2200 on the hill climbs ( barely noticeable).another day 60mph is now at 2250 on the level road and keeps putting bursts of throttle in and on hill climbs 2500 rpm to 3000 rpm also slower on pull away.may do this for a few days then back to normal.getting same result when I drive with cruise off. 300tdi edc(auto)

Last nights journey home sluggish and hard work accelerating stopped for a few minutes to get money from bank and hey presto ran really well home .any ideas or thoughts would be welcome as don't know where to start on this one

Sounds like a slipping clutch to me.


Sorry, just noticed it's an auto.

it does feel like clutch slip.on this have had same sort of problem on an american car (c5 transmission) lots of revs and no go dropped out the valve body and cleaned out and changed the balls and springs made a massive change to the car. i assume this box has a valve body what do i need to do to get it out or do i have to remove the transmission.
