Low hum at high speed Freelander 2

2007 Freelander TD4.
Have a low humming sound and i'm sure i can feel a slight vibration constantly when reaching 50mph and above. Thought it was front bearing initially as this was faulty. But noise still there. when going straight and turning left noise is there. but when turning right noise will go away. Any idea on what it is or at least where to start.

Could be filter in power steering reservoir getting blocked, causes the pump to strain and become noisy

tyres are often the cause of a humming noise good job you do not drive a hummer

Cheers for the replies, will check the filter and see if that makes a difference. Tyre's I'm sure are OK as they are a good set of Michelin and lots of life left in them. Been trying to pay attention to where sound is actually coming from and it seems to be front and center. not sure if that relevant or not.

Sounds like a front wheel bearing to me, most likely the right front.

The front wheel bearing was the first thing i checked, and the left hand side bearing was faulty. That has since been changed and noise is still there.

could it be the prop shaft bearing

Actually think I may be better to change the other front bearing as the more i listen to it the more i think it's that. Did inspect both Bearings one had movement other seemed fine that's why initially only changed one. And would maybe explain why pitch changes when driving over slight bumps on road surface.

Front transfer box pinion bearings are starting to fail now, keep an ear on the noise as if it is that it will get worse until it then starts to chew up the crown wheel and pinion

how easy is this to do for diy. And is there's a kit available?

to do the transfer box you will need a press, a special tool to remove the bearing outer, a special tool fro removing the pinion nut, a very large bearing separator and obviously the rebuild kit inc all new seals. Not really financially viable if you have to buy it all to do a single unit.

Cheers, had a look at it over the weekend and already decided it was worth getting someone to do it. But also for some reason decided to check the bearings again on the front. Spinning slowly by hand there is no noise at all, but when I managed to get the speed up a bit the bearing is rough. This is what happens while driving, show no noise but about 30mph the noise start. So will tackle the other front bearing and hopefully this time it's fixed.
