Do p38 engines run hotter that your average RV8 then?

I've recently blown my 3.9 vbelt, and have decided to replace it with a 4.0 serp&gems. I started removing the engine from a p38 today. Everything was pretty much how i expected it, apart from THE P38 HAS A HUGE OIL COOLER...... Is there a reason why i need this? I've never seen one in a v8...

Looking at the piston faces I think more than one cylinder is burning oil. I'm gonna gef the block out tomorrow and strip it down. At the moment I'm planing on cleaning pistons and the block and replacing the core plugs, piston rings, and maybe bearing shells. Hopefully everything will still be...

Hi I've discovered some steam coming from the left bank rocker cover. It's definately steam, it condensates to water and when connected to the air inlet it creates a white yogurt over long periods of time. +obviouslly the introduction of steam to the air inlet plays havoc with the A/F mixture...

Done that. Made no difference really. But it does seem to get a big quieter with 15w40 instead of 10w40. I'm back on 10w40 now though.

So is it best to just replace all the followers and rocker arms? Or diagnose which it is just just change tha faulty one? Should I do the cam shaft and timing chain while I'm there? Or is that a bit over kill lol
