One little problem I encountered after the last jaunt over Salisbury Plane was one I didn’t notice until much later: tell-tail mud-steaks emerging from the centre cubby into the rear door wells.

Anyone else had this? A failed rubber gaiter?

don't know about that particular gaiter ..
but i coat most underbody rubber bits with red-rubber-grease
( including the gearshift bushes )
so far all is good ..
except a cv-joint gaiter that leaked .. failed mot :-(
i suspect some roadworks .. many loose stone chips on road ..
might have punctured the gaiter .. duuno if that can happen ..

There's only 3 places where water can get in. There's the HB cable seal grommets, so make sure these are fitted correctly. A blast of flexible underseal over the grommets and cables will help seal them in. The gear lever gaiter is the other entry point. This again needs sealing to the floor correctly. A silicone sealer may help from the inside and use flexible underseal from below.

I’m thinking it’s from the gear lever gaiter, but I shall need to take out some trim to better investigate...

Thanks both! :)

Maybe - but it would have needed to travel forwards, up and then back over the carpet?

Perhaps I should drive through deep puddles! Lol
