2006 RRS with suspension fault and crash mode

i didn't take a close look at the battery that i yanked, but it tested out with the same specs that the new one does... i've only had the truck for a few weeks, but the battery was dated 09/2016 so it was around three years old and i decided to swap it just in case. after peering way down the side of the engine, it appears that the alternator has been replaced. the best i could do is stick my cellphone down there and pop a few pics:
View attachment 184931 View attachment 184932
it appears to be a reman alternator: Duralast Remanufactured Alternator

both of the cable stays that keep the alternator cable attached to the frame-rail are dislodged, and the alternator looks pretty fresh... not sure how old it is.

as soon as i press the suspension-up button, i get the chime and the suspension fault. as i mentioned before, i seem to be able to increase the gallery pressure if i continually clear the code and the pump occasionally runs for a second or two.

after clearing all codes and rereading, (before emergency mode came back), i was only getting one code from an entire system scan. it was not the reservoir valve code, but the gallery pressure not decreasing during vent code.

i haven't got much hair left to pull out!

Many thks

So it’s a 145 amp output, as you’ve just had this a few weeks did it come with a warranty , would I be right to assume u bought it with these errors plse

Half the battle indeed is getting the diagnostics to communicate with all ur ecus,

gallery pressure not decreasing during vent code.Is normally ur exhaust valve not being allowed to open so I would then assume power isn’t getting to that

Maybe the dealers just wanted shot of it knowing full well of the electrical errors and think there’s a lot more going on that a normal error

Have posted on another forum to see if I can find out what the max Vdc output is, does seem to drop quite a bit as u start turning things on

Will do some more digging for u to see what else I can find out ,

Lol, know what u mean when ur trying to chase a fault ,

just to be clear, I bought this thing from a small wrecker for $4,000USD out the door, tax/title/license. the next cheapest RRS around is $9,000USD and it's also as-is. he said they purchased it at auction, attempted to get it working, but threw in the towel. I've been working on the disco breed for over a decade, but this is infinitely more complex. I bought this rig as-is, with these issues, hoping that I might fix it up and let the wife showboat around in it a little before putting some 4x4 gear on and testing its mettle.

I've gone through the entire front door looms in the sill, I haven't been able to really get to the rear door sills... i'm afraid i'll have to pull the front seats to remove the loom cover? not excited about that prospect right now... it seems to be having lots of crash-mode fits right now too, which is frustrating because before this we've had a really good day.

I suppose it's time to pore over the valve wiring and figure out what the readings are, what they should be, and where they get their voltage from.

i have the latest software on my foxwell, and i'm also getting this error when attempting to interface with the EAS ECU service mode: IMG_8366.jpeg

this occurs in or out of crash-mode. crash-mode is happening more often than not right now, not sure what's going on but it's making this a lot harder.

regrettably, i can't figure out how to dump data from the foxwell onto the SD card, so here are a bunch of pictures of the live data from the EAS ECU:
IMG_8367.jpeg IMG_8368.jpeg IMG_8369.jpeg IMG_8370.jpeg IMG_8371.jpeg IMG_8372.jpeg IMG_8373.jpeg IMG_8374.jpeg IMG_8375.jpeg IMG_8376.jpeg IMG_8377.jpeg IMG_8378.jpeg

there are a few more but i can't upload any more... not even in a new post:
FR height sensor voltage 1.18V
RL height sensor voltage 1.23V
RR height sensor voltage .98V (this is low?)
control module power supply current .6A
compressor temp 77f
motor temp 81f
barometric pressure 14.6psi
control module voltage 12.27V
ambient air temp 79f
terrain mode: failsafe default (readings takin in crash-mode)
control tolerance state: normal tolerance

reading codes after the latest crash-mode session, the system is again riddled with "lost comm with IC"

one final note before i call it quits today... i found this:
IMG_8383.jpeg looks like that's how some water has/had entered the cabin.
i noticed that the pump relay socket... doesn't look good:
IMG_8384.jpeg
and then i've attempted to open up the fuse/relay box... but i'm stuck at this point:
IMG_8385.jpeg
and i cannot figure out to to open it any further. i'd love to have a look at the wiring for all of the EAS related fuses. google isn't helping.

cheers

Hi

Will have a good read of the links, many thks

Luckily enough I’ve had the engines fuse box out and took some pics, i retrofitted some heated washer jets

Remove the red battery lead from the fuse box

As u look at the fuse box at the front ur see a bolt , undo that first , then at the back of the bottom fuse box cover ur see a cable tie, carefully cut the cable ties, u can then lay the entire fuse box on its side , the bottom as you’ve realised is held on by 4 x clips , then remove the bottom cover allowing u access to the underneath of the fuse box

As you’ve seen water marks indeed would pull all the fuses and relays to ensure there’s no further bad connections like you’ve already found

Hope they help

Had a look at the height sensor figures , they look ok

If there’s bad connections inside the fuse box indeed as u are extremely knowledgeable ref electronics connections will indeed track across and cause all sorts of issues

Look forward to ur findings of the fuse box

Also there’s the 3 x connectors that go to the suspension compressor , hidden behind the front drivers side wheel arch liner

There’s also a large connector block near the drivers side LHD back wheel

Handy as I took some pics

Thks, wow , indeed a very good price , sounds abit like what I done with mine , bought it very cheaply and worked my way through it, mine was airbag faults , needed to remove the headliner etc and found they had cut out some curtain airbags , replaced them, traced faulty wiring and got it sorted out, took weeks to finally track it all out

Those covers should slide off, they sit in elongated catches , is easier to remove the seats to allow u far better access and can then examine the looms in greater detail

Remove the lower door rubbers on front and back, remove plastic sill covers, remove bottom B pillar by the seat belt , cover should then slide off, however urs might be slightly different meaning the seats may have to come out as ur finding

Think it will be a right result if the fault can be found , along with saving urself 1,000 of bucks from not having labour charges

Appreciate the feedback and will also keep digging my end for u

Meant to add ref security issue , that is held inside ur passenger CJB fuse box, water can indeed get to the back of it from blocked sunroof drains, but don’t think u need to go there yet

Seeing you’ve found that relay in the engines fuse box

oh, so you're saying remove the entire fuse box, and then open it afterwards? i can barely get that bad boy more than half open as it sits.

my loom covers curve upward under the seats... perhaps if i remove the seat cowling alone, I can get them out. they cannot slide forward nor backward enough to remove as they sit. i've bent them up and zip tied them to the door latch striker for servicing.

i will jack the truck up and pull the fender liner to inspect that area soon, i've been thinking about it for some time but the track is so darned low... and now it's the work week.

thanks again for your time and energy, will update tomorrow. it's bedtime here.

Hi

Lay the fuse box on its side and just remove the bottom half allowing u access, helps when u very carefully cut the cable ties at the back which is holding the bottom cover on , and that bolt at the front , can then carefully slide the bottom cover off as it’s laying on its side

Ah i see ref those side covers, maybe because u have different seats it’s not allowing u to slide the loom covers off

Ok buddy , look forward to the updates

Ur very welcome , fingers crossed can get to the bottom of it

I’ve got the spare tire out and was able to shimmy under the rig and inspect the harness connection near the rear wheel... it looks like it’s meant to be serviced from the wheel well and I can’t get to that side without jacking the truck up something fierce, as my back tires are currently tucked 2-3” into the fender. The truck looks SUPER sporty as it sits now and I actually received a compliment from my neighbor regarding the lowering job hahaha. A blasphemer for sure.

I did spray down the plug with CRC electrical cleaner then blow out with air, but I was unable to disconnect the plugs even after dislodging the mounting plate they’re fixed to.

Tomorrow’s another day

Hi

How very dare he, lol

Indeed that plug is gained from the wheel well, that controls basically the back half of the landy

Also here’s a link where I asked about ur landy , members there are extremely knowledgeable with vast amount of experience, just trying to cover every base possible so at the end of the day there’s a solution

https://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/post2070125.html#2070125

Someone mentioned ref that On a Foxwell reader there is a screen to reset the whole vehicle , assume that’s what you’ve been doing

Fingers crossed can find the root cause for u having more than one person looking ,

Know u may have to repeat urself sometimes with the other thread but hopefully me starting it will help get u an answer

Along with keeping ur sanity , lol

oh i'm well used to it, i've run these issues through landroversonly, landroverforums, and rangerovers.net already.

said a lot of it many times, in hopes of somebody hearing (-;

thanks for that other post, i'll follow that also

Hi

Great you’ve found the other site ok, there extremely helpful

See everything is checking out, just have those 3 x connectors left to check

So frustrating as I imagine it’s something so simple causing all this agro

Indeed plse keep us updated , have also been searching but haven’t found any new info out yet

Am still on the case

MANY MONTHS later, I have catharsis. It was the IPC. I shipped it off to Turner Diagnostics in your neck of the woods, but due to ParcelForce and Turner all being seemingly incompetent, it was returned to me several months later.

with the help of alexbbs on nanocom, I was able to install a used IPC to the truck and voila, no more “crash mode” for me!

just one occasional fault with the air suspension to sort out, but it’s alive!!!
