ok..after a lot of forum hopping i reckon its the IRD thats shot,and possibly VCU.
would removing the rearpropshaft make any difference to the horrible banging/scraping noise from the IRD till i can source another?
kinda beginning to regret selling me disco now :(
 
You might be lucky, give it a try. It much depends on what exactly is failing inside the IRD.....
 
I had same problem clanging fro ird, prop off made no difference,changed ird yesterday all fine now also changed prop 95000 miles now it runs like new.
