x-mod 3 door...hot in summer

Just curious how do you...or what do you do to remove the hot air inside a 3 door 110 during the summer.

I have a 125lb Bernese Mountain dog that travels with me, but last year I had to cut a trip short because it just got too hot inside.:flame2:

I have electric fans blowing into the back, but it gets really toasty in the back.

I have thought of ordering up and installing the rear plastic vents, but I really don't think they will remove much of the heat.

I have thought also of installing sliding windows, but I am not really keen on changing the "look"...although I may have to go that route...also very pricey to import a pair to Canada :eek:

Any ideas would be appreciated.
 
I agree that fitting windows in the side would ruin the look. Dogsbodys suggestion of a spinning roof vent may work well. How about converting it to a canvas top so you can roll the sides up on hot days? I cant remember the army 110s getting that hot when I used to travel in the back of them. Even in hot countries. With front windows open and both bulkhead vents it shouldnt be too bad.
 
Is the back lined or just bare metal? Insulating it may stop metal panels working as heating elements??? Just a thought not tried it.
 
I would lag the transmission tunnel and inner bulkhead to keep as much engine heat out of the cab as you can, and if you want to keep the look as original as possible, why not try and source an ex army arctic heater pipe kit ( I would have thought that might be easier to find than cooling in BC).Instead of plumbimg the pipework into the heater, why not rig it up the scuttle vents ? That pipework was expressly designed to get heat into the back of an army LR, there`s no reason why it shouldn`t work on cooling air. When you don`t need it rigged up just cable tie it to the inner roof ?

I have insulated the top and sides, as well as the tranny tunnel as well.

I have also considered a "spinny vent" however I have a full rack that I occasionally use, and I don't think these would last long in the bush...I suspect that I would end up ripping it off on a tree branch.

I also have thought about a modified rear side window that I can open...but concerned about exhaust drawback in the truck.

I have a spinny vent on my 110 and I've yet to rip it off when lanin and I've been in some pretty tight places with it.

How about an electric fan in the rear door ? or converting the rear door window so it can be dropped ? if not change it for one of those cat flap doors

X2, I agree. I think something at the back of the landy would be best to keep it out of the way of the trees. The dropbox seems like the cheapest and easiest option.

Trees in Canada will always beat the trees in the UK, for some reason I have the lumberjack song from monty-python in my head.
