I have had my 2003 TD4 FreeLander for around 6 months and ever since owning it, its been slow up hills, rarely gets much past 70MPH and turbo sometimes feels like its not working at all - sometimes on acceleration it's great. So, after reading through the threads i assumed it must be the solenoid valve. I got one from the scrapyard and went to change it, that's when i noticed that i didn't have one and the 3 pipes had been joined via a 'T' piece, the 2 wired connector had also been cut off.
So i soldered a new connector on and then noticed that there was nowhere to bolt the solenoid valve to, so zip-tyed it for now - took for a drive an problem not solved.
However the other thing i notice, is that the 3 solenoid valve pipes didn't connect the same way as the 2 i has seen at the scrappy. Pipe 3 goes to somewhere at the top right of the engine, pipe one to the actuator, but pipe 2 goes straight to a port directly on the turbo - the scrapyard ones didn't have this.
Has the previous owner fitted an incorrect turbo, hence why they cut off the solenoid valve?
Could i fix it with a boost tap and turn the pressure right down?
Do i need another turbo?
Any ideas, as need help, but the car just isn't worth spending money on a main dealer?
Thanks
