Would this put you off?

Was going to drive quite a long way to view a Disco2, Pursuit on a 54 plate, 67000 miles, £ 6000. Seller described it as being in good cond but has flaky chassis. He has kindly sent me this pic and I am thinking it's not worth viewing. What do u think? I know seeing and poking it is best, but would save me a long journey, as at £6000 I want something decent. Cheers.

yeah there is loads of disco's about and for £6k you should be able to get a decent one probably closer to home

Richards Chassis do galvanized chassis for the Disco TD5 for £1800.00 + VAT. Not cheap but something to bear in mind. In contrast, a galvanized chassis for a TD5 90 is £1045.00... That's not including labour.

I paid £4000 for my 2001 TD5 with 120k on the clock. It's not perfect but it's not quite as bad as that one.

That's pretty flaky looking, although, it doesn't look like the chassis is soft yet. But at 6k I'd go elsewhere.

If he could be talked down though?!? I would then make him and offer based on the fact it needs a weekend spent on it to brush it all down, treated and painted, and the insides will need blasted out, treated and waxoyled.

I would advise that seller that he should treat the whole chassis inside and out or he may struggle to sell that at that price.

I noticed your profile says you'd like a brand new 90. Have you considered an older one?

The fact that there's still many from the 1980's 90's on the road goes to show that they virtually go on forever. Parts are more widely available and cheaper than those for a Disco II. 300 tdi's will run happily on vegetable oil at 89p a litre from Makro. (or cheaper if you can source it)

I can't wait to get rid of my Disco TD5 to replace it with an older Defender 90 tbh. Wish I did it in the first place.

Well, the Discovery is a practical family car at the end of the day. I have 2 young kids so a Defender is not the best.

Looks more than flaky, I'd walk away, plenty of good ones about.

if he thinks 6000 is cheap for any 54plate he's a dreamer never mind one with a flaked out rear chassis walk away,these are not rare cars finding a good one for less money is not hard

Well I would say that in that chassis condition it's not worth £3000 never mind £6000. The bloke is a dreamer if he thinks that someone who knows what they are doing is going to pay that much.

Just for your info, a new galvy chassis is about £2000 plus fitting.

What about a older disco 300 tdi? You could pick a decent one up, spend cash getting it in A1 condition and still have at least half of your 6k budget in your bank account. Get an ES and you get all the bells and whistles, too!
