 Having just got the code back again for my 96 disco300tdi es. The aerial has now decided to stick halfway up.it is an electric one which works when the stereo is switched on.The stereo is the original landrover one for that year which comes with the cd loader under the drivers seat so i can't operate this either.Any ideas on out to fix the aerial.I can't just pop to my local dealer he is over 200km away .I'm based down at the southernmost tip of Africa so boy is it quiet

You could look for the wires feeding the aerial under the dash and check that you have 12V to one when you switch on the radio and that you have a good earth connection on the other.
It's possible you radio isn't giving out 12V to the aerial, or you have a bad aerial earth or you have a duff aerial motor.
If the motor is us I think you should be able to pull the aerial up by hand, but that is where it will stay.

I agree with Discool, keep the aerial rod clean. I have had many cars over the years with leccy aerials and have had to lightly oil every one. Do not use WD 40 or similar. This is an electrical insulator which is the last thing you want.

and a light oil is not an insulator????? and why would lubricating the aerial with either oil or WD40 (which would clean and protect it) be the last thing you want because it is an electrical insulator?

I've been using WD40 to lubricate car aerials for the last 30 years, never had a problem with reception and the aerials go up and down as they should.
Obviously I've been doing something wrong.

Why is it everybody recommends spraying electrical connectors and bulb holders to ensure good electrical contacts, been doing that for 30 years as well , never had a problem.

Bunkum.
