Work Gloves !

So, I dont have a garage that the defender fits into! so my bloody hands are freezing after 5 mins of tinkering in this weather! If I put big gloves on then I cant hold screws or anything small and if I wear blue latex jobs they are just as cold!
Anybody spanners out there that can advise on a good warm thin glove?

seriously, if needs be, I trap a tarp around where I working, fan heater in there, blowing over me tools, works a treat.
tbh tinkering jobs get left in this weather, essential work only for me!!

I use some called 'skins' or simelar. Goto your local builders merchants and they'll have them.

Thermal fingerless gloves are ok.
Like Tim I never do major refurb, jobs at this time of year, its no fun and paint doesnt dry! I wil do minor essential repairs if I have to. Nice to make a screen or roof with a tarp. or why. if you can.

i wear a pair of army surplus contact gloves. Theyre made of green aramid cotton or wool, are thin enough to work with and keep my hands sufficiently warm. Plus theyre cheap as chips:

Flexible and easy to hold nuts, bolts, screws anything really. Cheap too £20.00

As has been said it isnt really cold over there so stop being a puff, but last year when i had to swap out the front diff (which involves taking the hubs off, removing calipers, stripping bearings etc etc etc and pulling the shafts) and do some welding on the disco i used the two glove method as it was down to -25 in the garage where i was working and the fan heater trick just wasnt cutting it. A pair or latex then a pair of contact type gloves over the top, the layers work well at keeping some heat in and you can still feel things and hold fiddly bits.

but what i found more useful than anything was just making sure the rest of me was toasty warm so a hat and all the trimmings can make all the difference to your hands

wait till the missus is out, then bring the parts into the kitchen

I've just bought some lined workgloves from local builders been out most of today stripping bits off the disco and fettling the 110. and me hands were lovely and warm.. Mind yu I has fleece baselayer under jeans, sweatshirt and a hi-viz bomber jacket thingy Oh and a wooly hat..

Got some new exmoor 2nd row seats (highback) as want the kids to be safe in the back whilst having fun in the snow....so involves removing the brackets etc from the back. also some wiring as dodgy earth and connectors to the side lamps...
Like the Seal Skins alot....then again I might just kick the wife outside and I will do the cooking in the warm kitchen!

I wear these buddy ... fantastic for the price and if they get covered in Waxoyl, paint, grease or EP90 just throw them away and get another pair out.

I usually buy two packs at a time ... handy to keep a couple of pairs in the Landy too

bit ott... but i have a heated waistcoat by keis... as has been mentioned if your core is warm the rest of you is as well!

Ok its over a hundred notes with the battery pack... but it has loads of other uses!!!!

Mechanix gloves, i wear them everyday. I've even been able to fit bulbs and undo the small nut holding the wire on an alternator. I also fit tyres wearing them and they are holding up well.

I use these.
I managed to pick up a bulk buy of 100 pairs in a larger size off the bay for less than £100 inc post and they are superb.

Skytec ones are the best, you can get them for about a fiver and they claim they go to -50, still easy enough to work in too
