Wont Start Help please

Hi guys have been round a few pages on here but cant find the answer to my problem , which is I went to my freelander 03 petrol 1.8. serangeti and tried to start it everything went fine doors unlocked all light checks working but when the key was turned ..... Nothing , been back to try again but same result doors locking fine alarm works fine . to me it seems to be the immobiliser any way to fix this myself , Thanks in Advance

What's the red immobiliser light on the dash doing while this is happening? It could be the immobiliser but it could just as easily be the ignition switch or starter fly lead.

Or a flat battery, do the lights on the dashboard dim when you try starting it.

Hi guys thanks for your replies , firstly the flashing red light goes out when i open the door using the fob , secondly the lights on the dash are all bright with just a slight dimming when the key is turned , hope this helps you find the answer to my problem , thanks again , Lawrence

sounds like a faulty starter motor, get a meter and see if you are getting power to the starter with the key being turned

My stepdaughters was doing this last night on her way home from York to devon, she stopped for fuel at the garage at the junction of the motor way where she used to live....2 mins from us!!!! Went down, (it was doing what yours is).......no loose wires, tap the starter motor....sorted! Just need to order new starter......hopefully might be the same thing.

Just had a similar problem on my 2003 TD4 - took local Land Rover dealership 4 weeks to rectify! The imobilisor ECU had failed in the armed position so wasn't sending a signal to the engine ECU allowing normal engine starting. New Imobilisor ECU had to be ordered and this has to be programmed for your chassis details which are held at Land Rover. This ECU is not easy to get anywhere near as it is on the bulkhead behind your radio unit. This can also be rather expensive to recify due to the amount of work involved in removing/reffiting the new ECU.

Hi Guys I sent P/M to ratty and he asked me a few questions regarding the red immobileser light and he told me to look at my starter motor and there should be three wires attached ,he then told me to take the thin wire which has a spade end connection off and put it back on a few times , i then tried to start the car and Yahoo the car started first time . Thanks everone for there input and many thanks to RATTY . The connection was slightly dirty .
