Parked my 90 up Sunday night, went to move her Monday evening, and she wont budge. Ease the clutch out and its as tho your trying to mount a high curb, she just rocks. Is this possibly a stuck handbrake ? She worked fine before.....

could be. Have you tried to slacken off the handbrake adjuster?? failing that try Lo 1st that'll overcome the handbrake.. if it moves. that will confirm it is the handbrake and not something more serious..

what was the temp near you last night? i have had the handbrake on the disco freeze solid after a days off roading, full of mud and water crap i reckon that then freezes over night, i usually just bang it in low 1st and free it off with some gentle rocking first then a firm but fair pull away.

it has shagged the brake though, i now have zero holding force in the hand brake and it rattles like a washing machine full of bricks when i drive, so be careful.

I have had the same problem, drum filled with water from off roading and then froze solid.

I have an X brake now.

Try pulling the handbrake on tighter that may break the rust etc... and it will then ease off. Had that a couple of times recently on the 90.

This happened to mine after going wading ... basically just stripped it down and used plenty of copper slip when re-building. When it first happened I just hit the drum with a hammer and it freed it up ... just need to remember to not use it until you've stripped it and just leave it in gear.

Thanks for the ideas everyone, she still wont move, so new shoes tomorrow and ill strip her drum down and see whats what. Sorry for late reply, but been a tad busy ! Will let you know the outcome.....

mine froze solid for 3 nights in a row after wading etc, i managed to free it up each time by putting it in first with the engine off so it couldn't roll anywhere released the handbrake, got under it and tapped the linkage where it pulls the slider in the mechanism back into the gearbox.

Well, changed the shoes, there was around half the meat left against the new ones. Cleaned and greased, but can i get the handbrake to work, can i fx%k ! Looks like prop off to take drum off and double check.....And no, before a smart arse mentions "why didnt you adjust before the prop went back" Because i didnt.......!

Yes she moves freely now, just with no handbrake! I think i may have overlooked just adjusting it, and made more work for myself. Still, its done now. I had forgotten how uncomfortable it is working on your back in the rain under a car !

have you tried adjusting it from the square drive on the back plate on the opposite side to where the mechanism goes through??

Tried that mikeyt, still no joy....Will keep trying !
sounds silly but it soudns like your having the same problem as me mate. but i replace the pistons and replace the handbreak cable. but still cant get the handbreak to work.

if you can mate, just pop the gator off the handbreak. when you disenguage it let me know if the cable goes all teh way in or if it just bends insted.

back to work on the old girl tomorow for me too
