Hi all

The head unit I've got in my TD5 at the moment is a bit gutless, and as I have an Alpine sub amp & Cerwin Vega sub sitting idle at the moment I figured it'd be nice to stick them in the boot of the disco & make a nice custom housing for the amp.

Does anyone know the best means of routing the cabling through all the way from the head unit to the boot? I suspect it'll be a horrible job so if people have done this themselves and can advise on the best way/routing for this I'd be really grateful.

Cheers!
Jim

Guess that's an easy route yeah, but something always seems wrong about making holes in the floor of a car, plus it'd all be exposed to some extreme horribleness down there.

Theres no need to install any additional cable from the head unit, if you have a sub in the rear door u can wire from that, other than the power supply for the amp which would come direct from the battery to the location of your amp, mine's under the front passenger seat.

Don't have an existing sub alas.

I've got 4 door speakers (5.25" ones I think), and tweeters on the A pillars but that's it.
No speakers actually behind the back seat.
My old 200tdi use to have ones in the rear pillars but this hasn't :(

When you finally do it let us know please as i'll be doing this at some point as well as changing the front speakers and rear pillar speakers. They are crap.

run your phono cables and any speaker cables down the transmission tunnel (but inside the car). take the front passenger seat out to make routing the cables easier. put the cables under the carpet and any sound deadening and make sure cables are taped down using gaffer tape or summat similar. to get the power cable from the battery to the amp in the boot my advice is where possible come through the bulkhead using an existing grommet. widen the hole using a sharp knife and BE CAREFUL!! washing up liquid on the cable and the grommet will help you get the cable through. once the cable is through the grommet seal it up with some sealant like sikaflex or tiger seal to keep it watertight. once the cable is in the car (hopefully behind the dashboard) then run it down the passenger sill or use the route that the other cables are run down. where possible keep your power lead away from phono leads and speaker cables to prevent interfierence.
