in a new pickle
hi guys in desperate need of help on fitting a wireless winch remote to my T max 9000lb winch , I have the blue remote type wireless kit ? the instructions are useless ! has anyone else got any advice? front of landy is in bits and need it today ! my wired type lead is damaged beyond repair !
any help would be great anything might help !

Safety would be more my concern, if you are setting up for using the winch and someone with the same type of wireless remote will operate the winch! That's not a good thing?

no that wouldent happen as each remote has its own receiver , they come with 2 remotes so if you break both you have to get a new receiver as well or "learn" the new remotes

But they are definitely ****.

Nobody in the game proper uses the cheap ones, many inc myself refuse to use wireless at all, can't be trusted.

Once a unit got wet and dragged the hook through the fairlead, messy, that put me off them forever.

the wireless cheap one is for the TD5 which is not my serious offroader , its just usefull to have a winch , I haven't decided what to do with winches on my yellow TDI as that one has now taken the role of main offroader

I did wonder what happens when they get wet lol although I had this happen with a standard lead after the control box got damaged , it snapped the wire rope which was hooked onto the bumper

the main reason I want one is for some reason the freesspool is a little tight on mine ( possibly as the winch is new?) so the winch has to be powered out , that's a problem when the tree is 40ft away and your lead is 5ft long !

What winch is it? Many decent winches you can adjust the free spool tension on. A lot of the time a tight drum is merely caused by badly spooled on rope.

In response to your previous question about why the cheap remotes are illegal. It's mainly down to incorrect frequencies that are susceptible to external interference, not locking out to an open load state in the event or a corrupt or missing signal and not having a unique enough code to prevent another receiver operating it.

It is also an offence under EU law NOT to have an isolator fitted.

If you'd like to know what the reference numbers are for the relevant receiver/transmitter regs I would advise checking out the lodar PDFs available on the net.

its a T-MAX 9000 and is about 2 months old, has been used about 30 times or so has been tight ever since out of the box but is now at least partly caused by damaged and badly spooled wire rope, plasma rope soon to be fitted,

thanks for answering my question , the remotes im looking at are just the cheap blue ones for 17 quid on ebay , I have been curious as to why they are illegal for a while , I have been thinking of fitting an isolator for safety anyway but had no idea that you have to by law !

thanks once again :)

I got my cheapo champion winch second hand and after a new albright solenoid and a clean out it runs fine, not had to use it off road yet as i haven't been anywhere too sloppy yet...

It came with a wireless remote which i used to spool it in when i put it all together, i noticed that they have a lag on them for a split second which would scare the hell out of me if it was in a bad situation, but i also have a isolator that is easy to access to quickly cut the power off to the winch.

fitted said wireless remotes

the delay is horrific ! its litrally half a second

very usefull though , recently used for dragging a trailer onto another trailer which required me to be 20 feet away :)

I agree they are useful, but only where there is no chance of another electronic item operating the winch when you are not expecting it. I would be very careful at pay and play etc, I have one the same as your a but have it switched off and use the cable remote where there maybe conflict.
There is a reason why the lodar is as expensive as it is.
I agree the delay is awkward.

they are handy for loading trailers :)

i had the trailer on the back of my yellow 90 and was using the front winch on the blue one to pull stuff on

i also have the cable one when needed , its fine when through the window but have ripped it off twice now
