hi just bought a second hand warn m8000 winch but without the hand set  is there any way to test the motor to see if its working ??? should it work without the handset ?? ive offered the cables to the battery but nothing happening  !!! any advice welcome
cheers

right...

put the winch in freespool.
attach the negative lead from the bolt on the winch motor to the neg on batt
run a short length of batt cable from post A to F1, then run the possitive lead from the batt to F2.

the winch should rotate one way.

switch the short cable from A - F1 to A - F2 and then the possy lead to F1.

the winch should rotate the other way. if this works the motor is ok. you need to get a hand control OR a switch to connect to the solonoid pack to do this when its attached to your motor. If you want to run a switch, you can get the ones like electric windows (up/down) then its 3 wires to the solonoid pack. if you have an original solonoid pack then just connect the Posts to their right location A, F1 and F2 then run 2 wires to your switch and one to earth. this gives you the bi-directional movement at both ends.

thank you very much :D its a goodin  will sort out a switch or a remote when i get round to fitting it thanks again

yes, if thats the black box on the top ha ha , the socket for the hand set is on the front , are all plugs the same type across the range or will i need to match one to this model would you know ??

nah its from leicester , got it complete with the bumper needs a blasting and a lick o paint thou just glad it works ha ha ha

pretty sure their all the same. but i would specify a warn low line winch. should be the same for the M6000/M8000/M9000... actually saying that, my mates 8274-50 wonder lead looks the same. to be honest, if i had the choice again (which i will have shortly) i would run cables to the cab and the rocker switch
