following the success on my mates disco we are now doing my 9o.its so simple and looks bloody good.on mine i have a warn xd9000i but ive fitted an external albrite solenoid..to control the winch from inside the cab aswell as the wander lead.we simply used the electric window switch from the v8 disco we scrapped, mounted it in my dash pod,you only need 3 of the wires on the switch the live in and then connect the wire each side of the switch back to the solenoid..piece o **** it looks superb and works even better,,i will try and post some piccys when me laptop works properly..cost about £2 if u had to buy a switch from a srappy.

I just moved me solenoid box under the drivers seat. Unscrewed the connecter and mounted that on the front of the box. Just put the wander lead outta the window if you want to be clear of the car

trouble with that is when you are doin a winch challenge with your lead out the window it is prone to getting wrapped around the tyres and getting snagged on branches and stuff, much easier with your winch buddy ahead and you controlling the winch via a switch with no lead attached

Do you have a heavy duty kill switch fitted? I take it you keep it disconnected unless you are actually using the winch?

I was intending to fit a 3 position momentary switch to my mud pod if the missus ever bothers ordering it. (it was meant to be my xmas present:mad::mad::mad:). I was also gonna fit another switch to prevent acccidental activation of the winch switch.

Would it not be simpler to put a flap/cover on it?

On switches we don't want to push on reasonably stable things, we put a shaving foam cap.

Surely you could fashion something up on a hinge for the landy?

Yes you could put a flap or cover on it but then when you give your mates a lift and pop into the shops for a packet of fags or summit and they're waiting in the car for you they like to play. Something with a cover on it will have more 'appeal' to their curiosity than a seperate switch.

People tend to flick switches on and off one at a time when they are 'fiddling'.;)

If they flick the winch on they could burn the motor out or worse still they could start pulling big chunks off your landy.:eek::eek:

Point taken.

Writes that down in book of things to do for when I get a winch....

say...ratty...you wouldn't happen to have one going would you?

I think I'll be fitting a internal winch control to my mud dash too. Been meaning to do it for some time but never got around to it. I may just have a rangie rocker switch or somthing a bit more manly with its power switched that is covered in aircraft style type thingy. Just so they both have to be switched to work. I have a marine kill switch on my battery box rated at 250A@24v so I can kill any power when needed. Jai

I did have a kill switch from an old rally car but that was only rated at 100A 12v and that gave up the ghost after some serious winching. Jai

On about a winch Ratty. Seen as you've fitted a nice new posh PTO one.

I'm hoping to fit my 12000lb cheap chinese leccy winch to the rear of my landy. I just need to suss out how to get my old winch bumper mounted on my rear x member.

I'm still technically winchless at the mo cos I need to get a prop made up to drive the bugger.
