Hi guys this is my first post here, and to be honest, I know nothing about off roading and 4x4s really. However my brother recently bought the defender (I really hope its a defender or I'm going to get crucified in this forum) in the linked image. He keeps saying that the only thing it's missing is a winch .... With it coming up to Christmas I was thinking of getting him a winch for it, but as you've guessed by now, I would have no idea which winches are any good, and what would fit his 4x4.

Does anybody have any recommendations of winches, manufacturers, and possibly suppliers? Any input would be welcome.

Thanks everyone.

Thanks for the replies guys ... I've now posted in the intro section too :)

I'm currently looking on Super Power Winch :: Online shop at the vantage 3000 and the 4000. Would either of these be suitable for recovery if he got stuck off road in his 90? And would either fit his vehicle? .... And this could be a stupid question, but I wasn't sure if the 90 is 24 volt or 12 volt ... Is this something I need to consider?

I don't see a winch bumper or rock sliders on the 90

My be I can help :D

he is gonna need a winch bumper too, this could get pricey.

for my 2ps worth i would say superwinch tigershark 9500 like this

winch bumper too?!?! .... This sounds like it could be expensive ... going to see if parent want to get him the bumper. Will the tigershark 9500 be ok if the 90 weighs 12000lb?

A 90 doesn't weigh anything like 12000lbs. It weighs less than 2 tonnes which is more like 4400lbs, my disco weighs a good bit more than that 90 and the tigershark has done me fine, I also have a snatch block which effectively doubles the pull strength if needed.

Great cheers for the info. I was expecting somewhere around £300 for a winch, the bumper kinda throws a spanner in the works now, they look like they are around £160 (unless anyone knows of any cheaper). So I'll either get him the winch and he can get his own bumper, or I'll see if another family member will get him the bumper.

I'll keep you posted on my final decisions and how we get one :)

Thanks again.

Well my missis is getting me a winch for xmas for my disco
Ive chose the 9500 superwinch tigershark aswell
It will need a winch bumper on that 90 aswell

Im toying with the idea of a winch
I cant justify anything much more than £300
As the tiger shark looks a good entry level winch and has been tried and tested buy folk on here ( and in Poland) It will most likly to be one of them

Unless something viable comes up on Flea bay , But they seem to be rear for a barging

ooh yes.....Its a land rover, its going to cost you(your brother) a lot of money :D

You sort of had an offer without the words coming out of his mouth; further back. Contact 300tdistu about a winch bumper, he makes them.
