Sounds good to me, Most I have been looking at have the terminals the other way round. If I turn it round the leads won't fit.
Are the halfords batteries any good ?

You need minimum 115 AMP with the terminals in the correct place. Don't get full calcium, your alternator won't fully charge it, unless you up rate the controller. Halfords batteries are bloody expensive. Do you not have a battery shop near you?

OK, Can you recommend a good battery for it ?

Battery Megastore are pretty good.

If you search on here or rr.net you should find lots of battery recommendations. Fit the biggest CCA the plate will hold. You can always get a battery terminal switch from Halfrauds to extend the leads a little.

Get the battery that fits. Later models had extended ground to chassis and power lead from fuse box so mid terminal batteries could be used. Battery megastore fine but if the unit goes tits up hard work sending it back. Better with a local supplier in my view.;)

My last battery megastore unit lasted 4 1/2 years. At the time it was branded Alphaline - but now branded Hankook. MF31-1000 is the biggest that will physically fit in the battery tray, and the clamp should still fit over the top (may need a bit of modification with a big hammer). From memory they are about 130AH, and 1000CCA.

Mine finally gave up the ghost after I had been away for 8 weeks straight, so bought another - as I thought 4 odd years for a battery (when mine does sit around often for weeks at a time) was pretty good.

I'm switching to Yuasa for my future ones, their Type 664SHD fits nicely - but the only reason I'll be switching is because my neighbour works for Yuasa and can get them at a decent discount!

Is that MF31 one calcium?

Managed to buy a Yuasa 640 SHD today 115 Ah and 1000A Cost £108.00. Fits in perfect, and the terminals are in the centre so it should fit other motors.
Just waiting for the inlet manifold gaskets now.

They have some calcium in them, yes - but I think most of them do these days - well, anything that is marketed as 'maintenance free'. I never had a problem on my Thor v8 with it charging though.

That is because the later Thors have a 14.5 volt set point. Standard diesel set point for early models was 13.8 ok for lead acid antimony plates but no good for calcium plates. For part calcium, one plate in each cell calcium one plate antimony 14.2 is better. But to maintain a full calcium battery so it does not sulphate up and become knackered you need anything up to 15.0 volts usually around 14.8.

For some reason my garage put one of those in the Golden Girl, when a Bosch failed , whilst under warranty. Thay replaced with a Yuasa, I know odd but their choice. It lasted six months before it died from reasons unknown. Replaced with a Bosch and all is joy. Moral of story, I got a run of dodgy batteries or watch out for the Yuasa.

V8 or diesel?

Probably got the lower setpoint like mine then. A full calcium battery wouldn't last long.

Ah is that why. I did wonder. Especially as the Bosch before the Bosch that failed worked like a trooper. I left her parked up several times for weeks or months, came home, jumped and ...... vroom. :)

My p38 dse is having a problem starting. It's not showing the security code in the ems ecu , so it can't be synchronised to the becm !
Any ideas

The security code is a fixed number in the diesel EDC, you should always be able to read it with suitable diagnostic equipment. To re-sync with the BECM you read the number from the EDC and then write it to the BECM with diagnostics.

Thanks for getting back to me.

I appreciate what your saying but we are using professional equipment and I have changed the engine ECU and the becm to see if the problem was there, but it's doing the same.

I did change the OBD2 plug a while ago.

It's not showing the security code in the ems ecu , so it can't be synchronised.

Why would the security code not be seen when it's a fixed number.

Any additional help is appreciated
