The engine will not start on my RR P38 2.5 dhse. It used to start first time everytime when useing the heaters.
The last couple of days it has been getting harder to start. Now it will not start at all. I have to admit I did let it go below 1/4 tank. The battery is well charged and I can see fuel in the clear plastic tube. I have put it on Lynx and it is saying no faults. Any ideas?.

Check the function of the lift pump and glow plugs. Is there any air in the clear pipe?

If you have a test meter, check the glow plug resistances'. If you have one or more with different readings change em all. It should start eventually even with crappy glow plugs.! And smoke like a demon upon startup.

Water in fuel? One local garage (many years ago, closed now) was notorious for water in the fuel (I believe their under ground tanks either leaked or had condensation issues) and if you were unlucky enough to fill during "an episode" you would barely get 200 metres before cough splutter die... Several new filters later o_O

Found out the pump in the tank is not working, bought a new pump and cut a hole in the floor as per instructions.
came to undo the pipes and both were corroded. I phoned to see how much 2 new pipes would be about £125.
When I got back up off the floor I wondered if it would be ok to use a small piece of rubber hose and use hose clips.

Yes that is acceptable. Make sure you use proper fuel tube and proper fuel line clips to suit. Like these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MINI-FUEL...hash=item4603b12ece:m:mex0iemQGewE-IwY3H_6_FQ NOT Jubilee clips they will crush the plastic pipe..

Fitted new fuel pump, checked relay, will still not start. No fuel is coming out of the injector pipes. Whats next to try.

Will the Lynx read the ECUs? If it does look for EMS security code in engine ECU. Then make sure same code is stored in BECM. If it is not and BECM is scrambled. Delete the scrambled code and enter and write the code from the EMS into the BECM.

Does it mean it is locked to stop me messing about with it or is it locked and needs unlocking.
The engine turns over fast enough, but no fuel is coming out of the injectors. Would the ecu cause that.

How about the emergency stop trip-switch? Think it is behind the driver's kick panel? Cannot remember what fuse the fuel pump is. 39?

If it is turning over then it has to be something with the fuel system or a sync issue and it isn't the latter as your codes match, I think.

Thanks, I will take a pipe off the fuel filter tomorrow and see if the fuel is coming up to there. The filter should be ok
I have only changed it a few weeks ago. I tried to take a pipe off today but i could not get it off, do you have to pull the little chrome bar out ?
I tried to but it was realy tight and I was afraid to break it.

Lynx reads 1872 on ecu and 01872 on the becm. It reads that the Ecu status is Locked.

Needs to be same number in BECM as in EMS. Delete the zero and write 1872 to BECM. Car should start. Security code on diesels is a four number sequence not five number.

So lift pump is good. So the FIP isn't letting fuel flow.

I don't know if it is a Lynx thing or not but those codes should both match. Anyone else on here got a Lynx and can confirm if it adds a leading zero or not?

Did you check the emergency trip switch?
