Will 265/75/16 tyres fit 8" Rims?

As the title says really, this is starting to do my head in. I have searched all over the place and I don't want to see another tyre size calculator.....just a simple answer will do.
I have some 8J rims that I want to use on my series 2 with a military 2" lift, my tyres of choice are 265's will they fit the rims ok?
Can't find a straight answer anywhere all I want to do is get some rims and tyres that fill out the arches better.

Yes

They are what I have on my 110. But 8" was the largest width rim BFG (my tyres) recommended for that size tyre.

I put in a knarly 4x4 tyre and if you look down the chart 265/75 16 comes up as rim 7-8.
UK site has none of this info.

According to that, you shouldn't have 255s on 8 inch rims, but that's what the owners manual says is standard

Yes agreed , I had this problem when i swapped my D2 to 16" rims. A lot of the tyre suppliers work off the National Tyre Equivalency Tables but this doesn't appear to correspond to Land Rover recommendations.

Agreed this is an issue. One reason I like the Cooper tires US site is that they put a lot of info up. They used to show the 235/85 - 16 as ok from 5.5 but best at 6.5. That is now missing from the updated site (wish I'd screen captured it). I run 235/85 on std LWB rims and they work fine. What I'm not sure about is the actual width of the Land Rover rims. The stamping does not always seem t agree with the actual dimensions, I have 4 indentical wheels with 3 part numbers. Can someone measure a std LWB rim and post the inside width?

I'm running 265/75R16s on my freestyles which are 7j x16 (width 7") without any issues and seen a loads of boost with the same set-up. So running them on 8"s should be a problem.

That is because there is a huge difference between a 255/85R16 and a 255/35R17.

This sort of info is available on most tyre makers sites.

The BGF tire (US site) is good. Just pick any tyre likely available in the size you want and look at the stats.

In short yes it will be fine. However a 265 is likely too wide for a Series and will stick out of the wheel arches. Which is illegal. If you offroad with flexy suspension they will also likely impact the edge of the arches if they are sticking out.

what bearing does the rim diameter have on the tyre width you can put on a given width of rim? I'm confused

A huge amount as the side wall has flex in it, a tall tire you can move the bead area in and hardly impact the tread width area. As the percentage of width you are moving the bead area by, is much less of the total sidewall height.

I admit, I may not have explained that very well. But I know what I mean

Would it really stick out?
Obviously the modular rims would give a couple of inches extra width but theres at least 2 inches between the tyre and the arch on standard rims.
Got any pictures?

Do you know what offset the rims are?

Series vehicles would have mostly had 6.50 x 16 or 7.50 x 16 tyres are stand. All rather narrow. I suspect a tucked in 265 will rub on the front springs and give limited steering lock. Which might not be an issue and may just stay inside the arches. But any deeper offset rims are likely to run the risk of the wheels sticking out. But it is difficult to tell without actually trying.

I uploaded that photo just as you replied....
Yes I will have to try and see. I had 265/70/16s on my defender and they looked like they would have done the job, its gone now so can't check.
I'm not bothered about nobbly mudchukkas just something that looks a bit more full on a 109 and as I already have some 8j rims I wanted to use them.

They look like modular rims. They are usually 7j not 8, but they can be had in both. But also depends on the offset really.

I'm not saying they won't work, but it might be close.

I've not run 265's on mine.

Here it is with a deep dish 7" wide rim with a 235/85R16. It isn't out of the arch, but it very close. Close enough that the tyre was catching on the sill panel trim at the bottom of the wing (by the door hing), you can see it caught it and bent it.

A wider tyre on a wider rim with comparable offset would I'm sure be slightly out of the arches.
