i really do not understand the car scrappage laws.i was at aldershot car spares today when a swb county tdi came in on their truck, sensing a bargain i asked how much they wanted for it.i was told it had to go for scrap as it had been taken in as a p/ex at a nissan garage in aldershot under the new scrappage laws.this county was mot'd,taxed and ran like a dream.wtf is going on?

Hmm spose I cant complain, I gained an engine out of it, the disco that was the donor for my conversion had been scrapped under the same rule, and it too was not a bad motor with t&t.
I believe its a government incentive to try and keep the car companys from collapsing during the dreaded recession, giving you a couple of grand trade in on any old motor, also it gets some sheds off the road, and therefore according to the mot reduce emissions.
It is totally voluntary, so I spose its not unfair, If you really want to re use a scrappage scheme vehicle then I assume you could re-register is as a rebuilt with a 'q' plate, insurance is higher though.

If you bought a car "scrapped" under the scrappage scheme, ie; de-registered; if you could prove it was the original vehicle, and safa nd sound, IE went hrough SVA, you might not be able to get the original ident back, but you might not get stuck with a Q either, as you could legitimately ask for an age related plate.
Scheme gives DVLA a shot at getting rights to old numbers, and hence thier resale as 'cherished' numbers, as a secondary 'bonus'.

I think under the scrappage scheme vehicles have to be broken up and can't be re registered. The whole idea is to gat people to buy new (environmentally friendly??) cars, and reduce the number of old cars that are on the roads in the UK.

by rights i "think" the cars that are chopped in under the scrappage scheme are supposed to go thru the shredder and leave nothing to be reused

i found a 200Tdi Disco that was stolen/recovered with a damaged front quarter but the rest was salvageable (good for donor parts) so i enquired in the premises about buying it for parts and was told i couldn't as it "had to be scrapped" ...

in my opinion this scrappage scheme is a serious waste of resources

The government works like that.
I have an engine from a scrappage scheme vehicle, and the bloke gave me a receipt for it, hope I'm not going to run into a brick wall.
I have registered engine swaps before where there has been no number on the engine, so maybe I should just lose the engine number plate and get the dvla to assign me another, the receipt is proof enough of purchase.
