Not sure if this is the right place to post - mods feel free to move as required.

So sadly I am having to sell my TD5 90 (needing a deposit for a house) and I was hoping that if priced right this would be the proverbial piece of p*ss.
So, i have it listed in a few places (autotrader, LR weekly, in the windows, on Marketplace)
I started it at £17400 and now put it down to £16900 as it's not sold for 6 weeks or so. It's county spec, not modified except re-map, snorkel and bash guard. Mildly weeping steering box, new transfer case, almost no rust (none on chassis) and 97250 miles. Have i priced it wrong? Any ideas anyone? I haven't had any serious offers or interest really.

When I was looking for one a couple of years back it was very hard to buy one as people were buying unseen. Sounds ridiculous to me but that's the way it was, you could ring an advert on the first day and it will be gone. I was lucky to find a genuine seller on Ebay who was willing to let the auction run. I won it and was the only person to bother to view it, he even knocked £500 off my wining bid.
World is a different place know with mortgages going up a massive amount. Most people don't have that money for a hobby car.

i was considering buying a brand new bike last year...
can i have a test ride?
no, we dont have a demo bike
have you got one i can have a look at? what about in another dealership?
no, we havent got one in stock, there arent any demo bikes in the UK, you'll just have to buy one

WTF!?

How many potential buyers have contacted you? If it's none or not many then it's one or all of the price, the ad itself and where the ad is. Get someone to crit the ad, put it in more places before you start cutting the price.

Wonder if this is it

97,250 miles / reg YX52 WTU

Defender 90 TD5 in lovely condition. Minor surface rust on rear crossmember. Nothing structural. Rest of the chassis is solid and no welding either. Only a few differences from the day it was built. These are: Raised air intake and steering bash guard, new transfer case just a few months ago, and forward facing seats instead of bench seats in the rear. She also has a re-map on her - the reason for this is that the map that was on the car when i purchased it (18months ago or so) made it too smokey, hence a failed MOT. I got a new map put on and it went straight through the MOT no problem. Any viewings or questions welcome. Open to sensible offers.-Next MOT due 04/10/2023, Short wheel-base, Red, 5+ owners, £16,900

My humble opinion
Clean any surface rust from exposed chassis (rear crossmember) bumper etc and paint.
For that money I would fit new grill etc to really show front off and new light lenses if required
Needs to look showroom condition at first glance
Attend to every detail cleaning and touching up
New number plates as well if they are old EU ones
Otherwise it's just another landrover

Too higher price. There are XS spec 110s and 90s going for less.

That said people are asking way too much for Defenders. I went to see a 2002 110 XS CSW up for 14k it was battered and basically required a full rebuild. No more than £6 - 7k in value.

From just glancing at it 17k no chance, it looks tatty, lacquer peeling on the roof, rusty looking bumpers & sliders
rear crossmember ect A wee bit of effort to clean it up & make look as if its been cherished that doesn't.

Yer I know its a land rover but 17k is a lot of money, every penny these days is a prisoner people aint chucking cash about.

^^ This one.

A good clean inside and out, a pressure wash of the chassis and a repaint of everything that should be black and no longer is (rear crossmember, bumper, swing away etc). That will not alter the price but will make it more appealing for people to be interested when browsing ads.
I may be out of touch with prices as I am only just starting to look again as I need a 110 station wagon and I only have limited information on the vehicle but I would have put that at 10-12k. Unfortunatly it is certainly nothing special, it is not showroom condition, and it hasn't been rebuilt. A quick search of sold listings on ebay will give you a guide on prices (link).
