Why won't it sell?

Having looked at the pictures and compared to mine and what I paid you are £7k too much.
If you detail as advised above and paint the roof it's £12k maximum, if the inside is tidy.
Just my opinion of course.

One more thing, many byers may well see the snorkel as a sign of serious off road use and an ugly unwanted extra the restricts forward view some. Folk often want the total standard look.

Thanks everyone for replies. Yes that's the correct ad. The wheel nuts were on a set of steels I put on the day before it's MOT - they were just very slightly chamfered nuts, not the stupid LR stock ones which are on now, and yes I did put all the back ones on back to front
As regards the smoke, as stated in the ad this was due to the remap that was on it before - I switched it to a better map which was not so quick but less smokey.
Yes I looked around and tried to price as accurately as I could with comparable ones, but I guess if everyone is overpriced that doesn't help much.
Will tidy it up a bit and see how we go.

Then, make more effort with the pictures. Take it somewhere scenic. Don't take chassis pictures unless you're going to get it shiny too. Photoshop the reg plate. Your primary job is to get people to come and see it, and if there's anything they don't like in the MoT history they won't come.

Now rewrite the words - what you had there is like a survey written by someone that didn't buy it. Tell us why you love it, what's special about it. Sell the lifestyle.

Yes this is a good point. It's a it of a balancing act between needing as much as i can for a house deposit yet also shifting it before i need to put that deposit down

Even with all thay done its not 17k.

An XS spec in better condition is maybe 16k with todays prices.

£11k - 13 maybe

As a comparison my neighbour is selling a 2005 XS 90, 89k, 2 owners, all original bar exhaust and map. Full service history, 7/10 paint and a new xmember.

Hes struggling to get 15k. Been for sale for a year, dealer offered 14k.

Not a sellers market atm sadly
Old car prices (defenders included) have gone back to pre covid levels

I have had to do it before, the main thing is it sold, and like you I needed the money.

l had my pristine 2005 110 Station Wagon on the market a few months ago and it only just beat that price.
The truck was probably the nicest you would find.

lgnore what people are asking on Ebay and elsewhere, look at "completed listings" to see which ones actually sold.

Defenders will always sell but the current market plus the spread of "low emissions zones" has hit values.

l think yours is worth a bit more than the £12,000 suggested above though, l would give you that for it.

Tidied up a bit l think you'd see £14,000. lt is the most desirable version (post update County SW) after all, and it's done under 100,000 miles

@Ewhi , as others have said above LR prices have dropped and money's tight out there for the majority of people. If you want to max' out your sale price the 90 needs to be in tip top condition to attract buyers and I think you need to get the 90 in proper ready-for-sale condition. A couple of weekends hard work and a few hundred squidlets is all that's needed. If this was mine I'd do the following and it would make the world of difference...

1. Thoroughly clean/jet wash the whole underside. Dry, wipe off all excess greasy areas and Dinitrol the complete underside until it looks like new.
2. 5x Wheels off, clean and polish.
3. If you're up for this, lightly buzz back the roof lacquer and respray - this is not a difficult task.
4. Off with the tree-rock sliders, front bumper and tow bracket assembly - drop these off at your local powder coaters and they'll come back like new. I note you're in Swindon, A&C Shotblasting are down the road from you in Newbury and are first rate powder coaters and properly refurbish a lot of Land Rover components and chassis. 5. Buzz back, clean, prime and Buzzweld paint the rear crossmember.
6. Clean and polish every part of the interior to within an inch of its life.
7. Sort out the engine bay, clean and polish as per the interior.
8. Give the 90 a 100% service, all new oils/fluids, filters, belts, pulleys.
9. Fix the leaking power steering leak - it's not as hard as it seems.
10. Deep clean and wax polish the exterior, again make the 90 look its very best.
11. Finally, take 30-40 photographs to show the 90 in its very best light...on a sunny day take the old girl to a good country setting for a proper photoshoot.

Why would you photoshop the reg?

I automatically ignore cars without the reg showing as I cant easily check insurance, MOT status/history and history checks. Just very annoying and wastes both parties time.

That's interesting! I'll happily tell it to anyone that contacts me, but in this case it was indeed to hide the history.

The other thing though is that I'd heard that this is how 'cloners' choose a plate to get up to their nefarious deeds.

Weird, I just had a look through some cars on eBay and obscured plates are maybe 10% at best. I'd swear that it was almost the norm ten years ago?

Maybe the sellers now realise that the would be buyer wants to check the car details out?

Whenever I see an interesting car I check it out to see what it is/make/model/engine size, and of course the mot history, which is going to make you smile!

This weekend's jobs are an oil change, stick a trim piece back in and get rid of a rattle, then write an ad for the Alfa.

Y'all saved me the trouble of editing the pictures. And looking through the history it's not nearly as bad as I thought...

My disco got cloned, if im interested in a motor I just ask for it any genuine person with nothing
to hide will send it without an issue. I see why people hide the reg as 90% of vehicles for sale will be motd taxed & insured.
They are easily cloned, my mates car got cloned too & he got dragged out his house by armed cops after his reg was used on a
robbery vehicle.

And its not on display when driving around or in a car park? Maybe on a mega popular car like a focus but not likely a defender

As others have said its not a sellers market at the moment which isnt ideal for you so be prepared to wait for the right buyer.

A basic 90 with 5 owners is £12 - £13k.

Still doubl what I paid for my first CSW 90 10 years ago. 67k, full history, 2 owners, half cage and fresh respray. £5k!!
