Why do I keep snapping shocks? In the past three weeks I have done two laning trips and on both I have snapped the shock where it welds onto the round piece which bolts onto your mount, the last one was only a few days old. I have a 2" suspension lift and the shocks are pro comp es9000. The anti roll bars have also been removed could this cause the wheel to drop too much?

Thanks

Jimmy

Hi Jimmy, I'm assuming that the shocks are +2" as well?

Pro-comp unfortunately are well-known for snapping the top rings off, especially if you have removed the arb's. The pro-comps are just not strong enough.

I've heard of pro comp shocks breaking but never experienced it even on my much abused extreme travel 90! It had 3' long es 9000 on the rear!
I've had them on 3 vehicles?

take a pic of them mounted.

Washers are most probably fitted wrongly yes they are not the best and do snap but I've had mine on 2 yrs on the rear and they are perfectly fine. been trialled and abused alot so check your washers.

Not only will the washers affect the breakages it will limit your suspansion.

Are you running plus 2 drop plates ? because if you are the shock gets to full travel then snaps the head off , as the shock is not long enough.... have you got extened bump stops.. saying this , i have also had 2 shocks doing the same... i think procomp are crap, they are only a cheap shocker when all said and done. get some old man emu on it.

Yes they're cheap only ever seen them broken when fitted wrong never seen them when fitted and setup right ever!!

I have got the bump stops. Not sure on drop plates because bloke fitted all suspension stuff before I bought it. Can't upload photos off of my phone mate. Thinking of getting sum new terrafirma shocks tbh, anyone rate them?
