Winter is coming.. Temperature are about to drop far below 0 Celsius, probably going to see a few weeks at -40 in the near future :(

I love my Land Rover to death.. But its probably going to be the death of me.. Cold mornings where I need full winter clothing so I can make it into school.. Icy roads that require 4x4 at all times...

Wish me luck..

If anyone has tips on how to insulate a Series IIa Truck cab let me know.

Well check your door hinges for slack, that lets draught in, if need be check the catch on the B pillar and move it in a bit for a better seal around the door. Wrightoffroad make a heavy floor mat which is somewhat of an isulator! Carpet tiles stuck to the roof look better than they sound! (but make sure you put them on the inside!!!)

If you got the funds buy a Wabasto night heater or a kenlow hotstart . the Night heater will keep you lovely and warm and you can get timmers for them so it'll fire up befor you get in it .
The Kenlow hotstart pipes into your cooling system and basically heats up your coolant so u get instant heating ( well as much as u can expect from a 2a .

The wabasto night heater is a diesel burning heater/blower but being a truck cab u might not have enough space to fit one in cab !! .

try using hot watertank lagging for a start :) , but being where u are in the world you guys should be in the know about how to keep vehicles warm ( thats not a dig at you btw ) .

dump the standard heater valve for stopcock= more flow and a heater that works

Would the arctic heater from a lightweight fit? I can't see why not? There was one for sale the other week £80 I think he wanted, seems alot of pipework for not much money?

there are some good milatary spec heater that turn up on uk ebay from time to time can take some plumming in but i think they would work .........

Just face it they are cold, but there not meant for pussies just buy a flying jacket, mine works.
Seriously though a thick carpet in the mrs's old 2a worked well, a lot of the icy blast was from the floor, and you can remove the heater valve altogether with a couple of pipe fittings, just dont lose it you'll regret it in the spring.
I must've been double hard as last year my daily hack fecked up and I couldnt afford to fix it, so I drove my jago jeep up and down the m6 to work and back in december and january, the jago has no roof or doors, I wore 2 coats and a crash helmet, yeah I know sick but what do you expect from us.

LOL bet you got some funny looks :D , mind you i know what that Jan winter felt like all I had at the time was my XL600 and GOD was I cold ...

last year was pretty misreable as i had an intermittent electrical fault, meaning i had to swap batteries over in the dark some mornings then drive to work in the thing. should be better this year- battery in the cab, 200tdi and fully re-wired. but then i did put a soft top on ...........

On my Series 3 when i got it, the entire roof on the inside was covered in those 'orrible 70's polystyrene ceiling tiles. Dunno if they worked, they just had to go.

Yep I did get some funny looks, was safer wearing a lid, if I didnt after 10 mins I was so cold I could not turn my head round to see the mirrors, not something that a lady driver would experience.
Dunno if roof tiles would make a diffo, allthough it'd be quiter, manky axminster on thedeck does make a noticeable diffo though.

Hi...not quite as cold here..minus 26 last year. I got some inch thick rubber matting cheap from a hardware store, cut that out and put it everywhere...didnt glue it to the floor cos then the melted snow, rain etc cant get out!! I pop-riveted it on the doors and the sides of the back of my 90, then i got a really cheap carpet, glued that on the inside of the roof and also laid it on top of the rubber on the floors...helped quite a bit actually, also with the noise!!

Thanks for the tips guys. I have an extra heater that I can put in the cab, but it takes up all the storage space I need for my backpack and passengers. I'm going to mount an electric heater in the cab and plug it in when the car is parked (we have public electricity for cars in the winter). The door seals are a little leaky.. I'm not sure what the best way to fix those (on a budget) is.

Probably old bike inner tubes cut to size and doubled over so they squish and seal the gap?

iv got a webasto air top 2000 night heater in my s3 just turn it on 20mins befor i go out and the windows are defrosted and starting to get warm.

Ok if you can afford one.
You should get the airtronic timerstat so you wont even need to go out, it'll be cosy right off.
Eberspacher used to be the best, but I believe Webasto have now taken over, the principle goes back a heck of a long way, the system is based on the babington burner which was originally designed to keep meals warm for the army by burning manky old oil, the system being reliable as the oil isnt squited through a jet, but vaporised by a sonic shockwave caused by compressed air through a ball.

I was riding from birmingham to derby 80mile round trip on a moped last winter at 4.30 in the morning I was so cold I had to stop at everyservice station to warm up!
