I took my p38 for a pre test the other week as its due very soon. sailing through fine couple of small advisories, got onto the rollers, rear brake pipe popped under pressure, not the fexi either. the one that popped is the one that goes over the top of the axle and couldnt be seen from underneath. on removal of this, it snapped clean in half. so i was lucky to have it gone thier not on the road.

ive heard that too, i shall tell him its not to go on the rollers when it goes in for test tomorrow

i always replace brake pipes on any car, it cost next to nothing and is a bit of peace of mind. after all its the only thing between you and hospital!!!

why not nath.
cause it can snap the props or damage ya gearbox and stuff they test the brakes with a box they put it on the passanger side floor and test drive it they put mine on the other day and when i went back the bloke relized it and apolidize about it and then used that black box thing cant remember what its called they can only go on a 4 wheel rolling rd i have been told

I always take mine to a test station in Blackheath and he always uses the "Black box).
Incidentally, mine was given an advisory on the rear brake pipes at the last MOT and I replaced all the rears with 3/16" copper which I bought from John Craddock and new nuts (M10, Short type) from Ebay. I ran new pipework to the connector located behind the front r.h. wheel arch cover.
Already had the flaring kit, but you can get them from Machinemart or off the web cheap enough.
There are a couple of posts on the forum if you do a search.

Tapley meter. Permanent 4 wheel drive vehicles should NOT be tested on one station brake test rollers.

If it's the one in Whiteheath, going down towards Birchley Island, I have used him for years and the Rangies and Disco have never been on the rollers.
He may not be the cheapest but he is realistic..won't fail the car for a blown bulb etc. but says "Get one from the shop" and fits it F.O.C. If the headlights are out of adjustment...no fail, he just tweaks them.

Question gents.. If i cant put the RR on a two wheel roller to test the brakes... ( Which mine did ?) .. Cant i just use the 5amp fuse in number 11 so it releases the gearbox, i e for being towed?

i dont know about that my advice would be not to put on the rollers at all take it to a garage and they can test them with a tapley meter .

according to the tester that done mine, the rollers they had have been specially designed for 4x4's, as long as it hasnt got a lsd 1 roller turns one way and the other the opposite way, but he done the test with the tapley meter
