OMG! What a nightmare, a whole day on it and still no where near finishing!
Have the bonnet off, engine tied to a wooden beam, bloody plastic cover underneath was held on with pot rivits(sp?) so had to drill them out. Someone please tell me there is a simple way of doing it!:(

Yep bonnet well and truely off so we can hold engine up. Mind you i got to give it a damn good polish whilst i had it off (the bonnet that is ;) )

so a jack under the sump was no good then to hold engine ?

is it 1.8 or old diesel?

Yes we got there eventually but to begin with we couldnt get the plastic cover off underneath as it was pot rivited on and Father in law was out in the van with all the tools so couldnt drill out the rivits!
Mind you still in bits as we need the tensioner pully wheel and the idler pulley wheel. Had hoped at 100K that these would have been done before but sadly not :(
