Hi,
we currently have a garmin 310, we are looking to replace it with another unit that will allow us to download routes. Whoch would be best? Garmin used to have the better sat coverage but is that still the case? Tom Tom seems to have better advertising but are they better? Are there any other makes I should be considering?

Are there any websites that give good reviews/comparisons?

Dont know about Carmin but some of the new Tomtoms don't have the same features as the older ones... eg avoid motorways. The more expensive, the more features... do your homework (yes you are) Its those little features you find you haven't got that will **** you off.

Had my Tomtom Europe for 2 years... very pleased with it. But... you have to pay for map updates each 1/4 if you want it bob on. I dont bother as its just as cheap to buy a new one after 2 or 3 years.

Neither do you.....or was that road and hole.....Can't seem to remeber right;)

There's a Tythe barn near me that has a footpath and a road going to it. Every time they have a function on I get sent to change the wheel on the Tossers that drive down the footpath and then slice their sidewall on a rock that sticks out. The road would mean doing an extra 1/2 mile to get there so the satnavs set to quickest route seem to favour using footpaths.:doh::doh:

My record so far is 6 wheel changes on the same footpath at the same time ALL due to people following satnavs.:eek::eek:

I like my tomtom for being easy to use, nice menus etc BUT the software for updating it is horrendous, I don't know if this is all models but it's a common problem that it doesn't clear out old maps before adding new ones so it thinks it doesn't have enough space.

A lot depends on the area you live in or will be using the sat nav in too. Sat navs and other GPS equipment in certain areas can be miles out in their position. It's not uncommon for our drivers sat navs and or trackers to be showing us them as being in Cornwall, the north sea. My tracker had me showing in Aberystwyth a few weeks back.:eek::eek:

will mostly be used around the midlands and lake district. Don't have a problem with my current garmin other than it won't take predefined routes.
