Which is Best K&N or Pipercross? The filter on my TD4 is ready for a change. I was thinking of fitting something that a). Improves performance and b). I won't have to bugger about getting into so often.

Any body got any thoughts?

Thanks for your replies.

I have the K&N air filter that fits just like the original in the airbox , Perfect fit and only clean it & oil every 2 years , Just remember to drop of the battery lead for a while to reset the air sensor .

anyone who thinks they will get better performance by just fitting an air filter is misled.
and on a diesal aswell!!

you need to combine it with other mods to get any real benefits.
you may get a bit of induction noise thats about it.
the amazing new performance will all be in your head,if you think it goes better then k&n or pipercross have done there selling job

Didn't say there were many gains to be had, but it is noticable if you replace the whole airbox with a decent intake setup. Certainly a lot more responsive on the throttle, for the petrol anyway.

Even before i did any other modification to the engine, it was still noticable.

Thanks DTO and Crewebiker. Noted that there may be only minimal performance improvement. I wouldn't have expected it to turn into a "fire breathing dragon" as others implicated.

I just want to replace in the existing box to reduce the maintenance requirements as its fiddly to swap and perhaps slightly improve performance.

Just to add you clean/oil the K&N every two years or replace the standard filter every two years so you don't reduce the maintenance requirements , The only gain is money saved on replacement filters as my K&N has been fitted for 7 years (you still have to buy the clean/oil kit) .
Cleaning EGR valve & changing crankcase filter are also a good idea .
