Hi there.

I've just been told I need a new gearbox for my 1998 Freelander 1.8 auto, not of them popping up!! could someone tell me if a 2005 2ltr auto will fill fit?

The vehicle is in Cyprus so I need to be sure before shipping. All help and info greatly appreciated.

Regards

Mark

Erm, there was never an auto box for the 1.8 and never an auto box for any Freelander before 2000.

You will need a box from another 1.8 - I believe any model year, but that will need conformation.

You do not want a gearbox from any diesel model as the gearing will be wrong - you need a 1.8 box.

Hey GrumpGel.
Thank you so much for the info.
I will move forward with that.

So if it turns out to be a 1998 2ltr a 2 ltr 2000 box will fit??

Again thank you.

Take some pictures of the engine and gearbox, as the 1.8 petrol, or 2.0L diesel before 2001 MY only came with a manual gearbox, there wasn't an auto available.
The auto only came along after the 2001 MY updated, when it was only available on the BMW sourced 2.0L TD4 engine, or the V6 petrol engine. The 1.8 K series petrol was never available with an automatic gearbox, only a 5 speed manual.
