Hi, 2nd post so please be nice

ever since I first saw a Freelander SWB being used by the police I have liked it, I have never been in a position to buy one...until now

If my wife ever gets her ass into gear and passes her driving test I'll be looking to buy a Freelander

the reason I want a Freelander is that I go shooting a lot (air rifle), mainly vermin shooting (rats, rabbits, squirrels, crows, magpies), where I go shooting at the moment is semi remote for this area, up back roads and top of hills, during these months where the temperature drops and starts to freeze, a normal car wont get up the lanes, but a Freelander will :)

so I have been checking around for see what Freelanders are up for sale, there are a few which is good for me, plenty of selection

while I was searching the internet, I come across a few web pages that had photo's and video's of Freelander owners going off road, making days or weekends of it, this appealed to me as I plan to get a Freelander, I dont want to be one of those guys that buys a 4x4 and never use's it for what it was intended for...I cant see the point of it

I have looked at Freelander SWB and the Freelander LWB, I always focus more on the Freelander SWB

if I ever do get around to buying a Freelander, I will hopefully get to use it for off roading as well, does it matter which Freelander you use for off roading or as i think, both Freelanders are the same but with different shells?

think I have waffled on enough for this post, ill continue after a few replies if I get some!!

thanks

if you want to use it off road you'd be better off getting a freelander 90

the 110 version has more space thou ......

If you are thinking of buying the Freelander 1 then there is only one viable option ... go for a diesel. Have a search through the Freelander section and you'll notice no end of issue's with the petrol engined versions, which can empty your wallet very quickly & regularly.

When considering buying a LR I initially thought the Freelander would be ok for the the family & I, I soon changed my mind to getting a Disco 1 as they are a better all round vehicle IMO.

Having had a Disco 300Tdi auto for the last six years, and looked long and hard at a very late 300 or TD5 to replace it I've gone Freelander TD4 auto. Its more nippy, better on fuel, narrower, so squeezes thru gaps in traffic better, quieter, has better on road handling. Disco had lots more room for junk in the back, the 7 seats got used a few times, felt much bigger and sat high and square. There are some nice tracks and lanes round here, and I have to say, I wont be taking the Freelander down the more challenging ones. Oh and the rear seat passengers have more room in the Freelander, I'm 6".
I've driven 88's 109's 90's and 110's even owned a few. Great vehicles and the best for what they are meant for, but I couldnt live with one now as a daily use car, not practical for me. Rangey? too big, too thirsty, perhaps one day!

did I post in the wrong section, I'm sure it was the section for freelanders, obviously this is not the forum for me, I was hoping for a decent discussion of some sort instead i get flamed by small minded users who just like to flame any post that doesn't involve disco's

think ill have to put this forum on my "DO NOT TOUCH WITH A BARGE POLE" list

cheers people, good way to promote this forum...NOT!!

that's a bit unfair

Get a grip...the nature of this forum is banter, ****-taking and loads of good advice..generally in that order..should have had a nose round first..you're dead set on a freelander, fair enough, but if you haven't got a sense of humour and a thick skin then i suggest you buy a bicycle cos you're gonna need both as a freebie owner..

P.S. .. Did i mention that a 90 is a far better vehicle?

A tad unfair to give LZ a miss because of a few comment's. Yes, the majority of user's don't or won't admit to liking the Freelander BUT there are a fair few members on here who will give you decent advise on the Freelander.
