I have had a search around the net and this forum and i can find a few references to this but not a definitive answer but hopefully a quick one.

recently done a lot of work to the cooling system as some will know already, but i noticed my coolant cap had a section broken away so i ordered a new one after checking with britcar and a russian parts catalogue site i ordered a PCD000070, which has arrived and is a 140 cap with a yellow insert on the underside. my current cap is all black and has a 200 on it which i believe refers to the opening pressure.
my temp gauge was always bang in the middle, but we did notice a few areas where red coolant had been leaking slightly and had subsequently crystallised

can anyone say which is correct, or what are people using?
many thanks

thanks Saint, you dont have any cooling issues do you ?

(Fingers crossed)

No, I had a dodgy electronic thermostat wire Summer last year, then a split Rad late last year and a bust water pump earlier this year, but no overheat issues in either case and the cause for each was obvious enough.

So luckily no mysterious faults.

thanks mate, i think i'll stick with the type i have for now, i could see why a low pressure and a high pressure could be beneficial but i dont have any issues with the 200 so i'll stick with that

me and loony are going for the first proper test drive in a a sec.........

mine is 140 all black....

??

the 140 cap i have has the yellow insert on the end that screws in to the tank, but the 140 is the significant part.

i think the 140 means it releases at lower pressure than the 200. good maybe for having less pressure exerted on the cooling system, possibly bad as the coolant will boil at a lower temperature.

do you have any cooling issues?

From what I have read and can gather, the 140 cap is for the diesel and the 200 is for the petrol....there are even some 280caps out there...

I think replacement caps from dealers is now the 140, this, from what I can gather is to try and stop the common Expansion Tank splitting problem - results debatable.

Some have reported the 140 cap leaking coolant as it isn't quite up to holding the M62 cooling system pressure, but again, others have reported no issues.

the number represesnts the pressure holding capacity: 140 = 1.4 bar, 200 = 2.0 bar etc.

i still have the 140 cap unopened and i am reluctant to try it

just looked up the part numbers on microcat and got this, so for my 4A chassis number it says i should have the PCD000070 which is the 140 cap

cap microcat.JPG

and found this on another site which is what i have currently on the car

cap.JPG

another pic from underneath as the other pic looks like 280 from the top

both underneath.jpg

i think i'll order the PCD100200L and send this other one back

after a quick google

1.4 bar = 20 psi = 109 degrees c boiling point
2.0 bar = 29 psi = 120 degrees c boiling point

i think i have bigger fish to fry with my 04 rescue donkey:D

The 70 part number is P38 and TD6
the 200L part number is for the 4.4 V8

thanks saint, i did check with britcar and they said it was the 140 so i'll return and get the right one as per your link

another little thread solved... what do you know about air bag lights being on?
mine has been on since we put the box back in.
allcomms says in the SRS section 'battery disconnect unit 1' or shall i start another thread?

thanks

Best start a new thread, that way others can find it and may have found a solution...

I am not sure the All Comms can clear all SRS related issues, it can read them, but not clear some of them....I guess this is a safety measure to ensure that the SRS (which can save your life) isn't just reset willy-nilly....

Check all the yellow connections and those under the seat, but your error seems to point to the pyrotechnic charge on the battery positive lead that disconnects the starter and engine power lead...

Most thing SRS related, I refer to a dealer - not worth making a mistake imho.

thanks saint, good advice, all my wiring is suspect, especially around the battery area, i may have a look at that to make sure its still connected, hopefully without blowing my head off..
