Where's Waldo? I mean Nokia Handsfree?

I've got a 1998 Discovery 1 which has an aftermarket Nokia CARK 91 handsfree. I've got an after-aftermarket Bluetooth kit for the handsfree, but I have no idea where the handsfree unit itself (not the cradle - that's in the cubby box) is.

The mike is top centre of the windscreen, behind the rear view mirror, with the wire disappearing into the headlining. The wire from the cradle disappears into the centre console through a hole in the bottom of the cubby box. I didn't see it behind the passenger-side footwell cover. Is there room for it behind the heater controls/under the radio head unit?

The handsfree box is in the photo above: It's the black box above the Nokia logo and below the speaker box.

Tell me, collective wisdom, what are the most likely hiding places for (yet another) black box?

No room behind the head unit , the place to fit and still have access to it if need be is around the drivers side fuse box area, that's my where my Bluetooth control unit which is similar to Nokia is fitted.

Would it not be possible for the CU to be missing?. Have you tried a search and pair to see if its still there.

I've had a look around the fuze box area without spotting it, and behind the kick panels. I'll check again with a torch.

It's possible that the unit has been taken out altogether, but I don't know why you'd do that and leave the cradle in the cubby box.

I've scanned for an existing bluetooth unit and not found one.

When I used to install them, another place for the control unit was under the centre console.

Follow the cables - if the box isn't found, send me a PM

Aha! Just below the passenger-side kick panel, tucked under the carpet.

Now to figure out why the stereo doesn't play the sound of the phone (it's possible that the phone was originally wired to a separate speaker rather than the stereo).

If it gets any more complicated I will just return the bluetooth unit, take out the venerable factory head unit and put in something modern with bluetooth built in.

The standard Philips head unit for the D1 doesn't have the facility to link with mobile car kits. Any incoming ringtone would be from the handset it's self, so u would have have a separate stand alone loudspeaker , muting of the radio is by turning down the volume or pressing the head units mute button, so very basic.
