Hi,
I have a very basic “Pure” that I’m keen to upgrade now its out of its warranty period.
I purchased from an online breakers a rear centre console USB ports and accessory power modular bay for the kids. It’s designed to fit in the bigger Discovery rear console I think.
This module contains 2 nice 5v USB type A ports, covered by the spring flap and a 12v accessory power port.
The module splits into two pieces, the USB section which fits perfectly into the discovery sport rear centre console and the accessory port which is on the outer larger frame.
Fortunately, the Discovery Sport has the correct 5v wire harness and connector inside the rear centre console so it just plugs in. However, there is no 5v power going to this wire harness. The owners manual details the location on page 100.
Like most, I assumed because my basic Discovery Sport doesn’t come with these ports, the fuse would be missing. However, I don’t even see a location for the 5v rear centre console power in the owners manual. The closest I get is the following:
PASSENGER COMPARTMENT FUSE BOX
Fuse number Rating (Amps) Fuse colour Circuits protected
52 20 Yellow Cigar lighter.
53 20 Yellow Cubby box accessory power socket.
54 - - -
55 20 Yellow Rear console accessory power socket.
LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT FUSE BOX 3
Fuse number Rating (Amps) Fuse colour Circuits protected
FD1 20 Yellow Heated front passenger seat.
FD2 20 Yellow Rear seat heater- right side.
FD3 10 Red Glove box USB port. Rear USB port.
FD4 - - -
I’m keen to enable power to this 5v wire harness without butchering the cable and adding my own voltage regulator to it.
Does anyone know where this wire harness ends up and how to power it?
The harness is stuck to the left hand side of inner rear centre console and goes forward towards the engine compartment.
From that point onwards it disappears and I’m unable to trace it with conventional tools. I don’t have any fancy electrical tools to put a signature on a wire and trace it. Those thinks seem to cost a small fortune and I can’t justify that for single use. It’s a balance of keeping the kids happy and paying for the heating.
Finally, I have that left over accessory power port.
I’d like to add it to the luggage compartment so it’s like a more expensive Discovery.
Is the harness located above the luggage compartment fuse boxes also or do I have to run a separate cable and bind to an existing cable? I’d like for this 12v power to be on full time as we have a plug-in cooler that we want to keep in the boot when going on family outings. Is it possible to connect to full time 12v without accessory power-down?
If you guys have any other ideas on upgrading the base model, please let me know.
I have seen at the breakers, third row seats, entertainment units, better lights and all kinds of plastics. All in good time.
Regards,
Tony.
