Evening all, i'm selling my disco that had wheel spacers on it when i bought it, but planning on sticking them on my 90. It's currently got 33. 12.5 r 15 khumos on 10x15 modulars.

I am well aware of spacers fusterclucking wheel bearings etc but my wheels rub on my radius arms, if i adjust the lock stops then i have bugger all turning circle and new wheels will cost me £150 so it makes sense to fit them if they are free.

The main thing i'm concerned about is hearing a lot of stories of spacered wheels apparently coming off whilst driving. Is this simply because the spacers havn't been torqued properly? I remember somebody telling my to loctite the threads on or something? Also is there any problem with having alloy spacers and steel wheels e.g. corroding together?

Any advice welcome, Cheers, harry

thats odd, i have 10x15 modulars with 33x12.5 and i have no problems. the 10x15 hav a huge offset already so ithink spacers as well the bearing may not last so long. there cheap and easy to fix mind so go for it...just my 2 pence

and you wheels will stick so past the arch it wold be mad!

as for safety, no problems with wheel spacers as long as faces are clean when fitting ad done up correctly.

My modulars don't seem to have a huge offset like some others do, the wheels are fully under the arches atm and perfectly legal. A mate of mine runs 35 12.5 r 15 and on 10x15 mods, hasn't touched the lockstops since it was standard and his don't rub on the arms at all but the tyres stick at least an inch out of the arches so I presume he has a greater offset on his.

Do you know the torque settings? It's 108 nm for steel wheels to axles but would that differ if they are bolted to the spacers or the torque for the spacers to the axles?

if your wheel spacers fall off youve dun summit stupidly wrong..

mine have been on for ages and have had had no probs
got 35/11.50/15 simex type tyre had to put extended arches on as the mud splattering all up me windows was a bastid..

I only loctite the spacers to the hubs though? Not the wheels to spacers? A professional land rover mechanic told me yesterday that i should copper grease the wheel studs too?
Sorry if i'm going round in circles but i want to do things properly.

thanks, Harry

Hi just out of interest, what width spacers are you guys using? I've seen some on fleabay in both 30mm and 55mm, with or without a hub centreing flange. I was thinking spacers were the way forward for curing/improving my lock. On my 90 I'm currently running 35/12.5/15 tyres and they rub on full lock. Suspension is +2inch, I'm looking to buy some so any info on using these would be much appreciated. Rich

Mine look about 25/30 mm. I am only going to be running them for a while until I can afford some offset wheels and i got the spacers for free. If i were you, spend the money on wheels first time round, steel modulars are about the same price as a set of spacers.

Thanks Boris that seems like sound advice, I have just recently bought the Landy and am wanting to put a few thing right with it! The wheels are a bit scabby anyway and like you say, new wheels are about the same price as spacers. I checked out ebay and found some for about £200 available in 30 & 50mm offset. I just need to work out which will be better for me? And search about for the best deal too! Any pointers?
