My rangie ( P38) has really horrible wheel shudder under braking. It is ok until speed hits 50mph shakes like hell till speed is down to about 45mph and then settles down. I have replaced steering damper , shocks , and had tyres balanced ; still the same anybody got any ideas ? :(

As pointed out, it could be your disks, they could be warped, and that's what makes your brakes judder under breaking, fortunately a nice easy job, and not too expensive, how to check them? i ant got a clue!! maybe ATS or some others can check them

Try not to use heavy breaking on motorways, and at high speed, they glow red hot and warp, you can drill holes in them (but i think you will have to look up for advice on this) so they cool down and dissipate the heat better that way

Thanks you are right ! I used a DTI (dial test indicator ) and the disks are all warped to hell and back ! They are cross drilled to prevent this and I still managed to warp them ( foot is to bloody heavy ).

So much for the overrated and overpriced "Blingy" discs. The braking system was designed to use ventilated and plain discs. Why not replace them with the standard items. Trouble is that you are trying to stop a 2 ton motor in the same way as a Nissan Micra.
A lot of people seem intent on "Redesigning" the cars with non standard wheels, grilles, braking systems, engine conversions etc., the forum is full of posts relating to the aftermath.
A fool and his money are soon parted springs to mind.

They won't be told will they. P38 brakes are good enough standard. I shudder to think how these vehicles are being driven on the same roads i use. Mad as bloody hatters some folk.

mine were warped but after 180k i'll put it down to use!!! my wheel bearing was shot too, caused a pulsing a shudder under breaking!!

standard disks are 15 quid each and 15 mins to swap, not worth the argument really!!

if it still does it itll be bearing, 55 quid!!

bag to get out if you aint got a ramp!!

check for bearing wear, wheel will feel loose!
