Wheel nut chrome cap spinning

In the process of swapping my wheels over and while cracking the nuts I come across a wheel nut where the chrome cover, which I'm aware is a permanent fitting, is just spinning on the nut.

The chrome cap appears to have ballooned slightly since I can't fit the standard wheel brace over it. I've tried using a slimmer 27mm socket which will go over the cap, but just ends up spinning it on the nut inside. I can only assume that the nut is corroded and that's distorted the cap.

I've tried to crimp the cap into a hexagonal shape so that the wheel brace will fit, to no avail. It's simply distorting the cap and I'm concerned it'll be even harder to get off if I bash it up too much.

I've tried lots of poking and pulling with screwdrivers and pliers but no luck. So anyone got any ideas?

PS I was thinking about seeing if I could punch the cap in the middle to make a hole, and then prize the hole open and try and yank the cover off with pliers. Anyone got a better idea?

Not to sound patronising but you sure that one isn't the locking wheel nut with the chrome cap?

lol Yes mate definitely. The locking wheel nut caps have a dent on them normally anyway and I've never had a drama removing them. This is definitely one of the standard nuts so I'm not sure how to tackle removing it. Stupid bloody design.

Can see the odd one out it has a dimple in it.

I had a few nuts on mine one that looked slightly ballooned out so I knocked in a 27mm socket to get them off
