What's the Deepest you've ever taken your Defender?

It's not attached properly then. My safari snorkel on my 200tdi has more silicon than katie price.
A bow wave is when the front of the car pushes water so you get a false low behind the wheel arches. If done correctly you can drive through water deeper than the air intake. There is probably a demo on youtube but if you fit the snorkel properly you wont need to.

With a snorkle, you can go until you can only just breathe. That's fine but only in a lake etc. Never do that in a ford or you could be swept away. If you feel it go light, don't go any deeper through fast flowing water.

there's a ford where we live, over the river luce, which used to be a main road, up until about 40 years ago. tractors apparently are quite happy with it, so i thought i'd give it a go (defender 90, 200TDI, insa turbo tyres but otherwise nothing special). got through it fine, got out and cheered when i got to the other side. water didn't actually get into the cab, but the neighbours whose land is on the other side were a leeetle bit scared ****less and have asked me not to go across any more. awwwww

It ain't much, but it was one of my first times off roading in my new vehicle (which is also my day to day vehicle) which much to my annoyance, still has a K&N cone air filter under the bonnet (still not managed to connect the snorkel)...

Obviously, both clips are from the same video which is a selection of my off roading fun last year (before I became too broke to go!).

Have many of you 'snorkelers' got rid of the dump valve between the air intake and the filter box? Mine seams to be working fine, but I seen other tread where people fit a single tube. What have you done

Not a fender but military series 3, with trailer a quarter up the doors,without trailer up to my waist

Strictly speaking just below the side wing air intake grill, although you can go a little depper if you can keep your speed up - bow wave effect over bonnet keeps water level lower behind it

Personally I wouldn't rely on the bow wave, as you're fecked if you stop!

iv driven military wolf's (stage 2 waterproofed) onto a landingcraft.
it was high tide too so the LCU was 50m + off shore on the sandbar.

Had to wear a 'womble' dry suit as the water was sloshing over my head with every wave + bump.

one of the best things iv done in the corps!
