Whats the biggest spare you can "hang"

Hello All

Still very new to this landy lark, and I am in the middle of trying to kit out my D90.

Anyway I am running it on a 2" lift kit with 235\85\ r16 tyres. This obviously makes the spare look tiny and when I start to take it off road I want to make sure I can change it if I have a problem. Can you hang a 235\85\ r16 on the rear door of a D90?

Also any ingenious places to store a highlift jack?
 
I've got a 235/85 R16 spare on my back door; as long as you get a decent wheel-carrier, it's no problem! Do a search on the topic; it's an FAQ
You can get a rack to store your Hi-lift upright on the back panel, but make sure you lock it as well, I omitted to put my cable lock on mine and some git had it away (hope they've chopped off a finger or 2 with it!!)
 
Hi-lift jack (the 48" one) fits very nicely in front of the rear side seats and behind the rear bulkhead, strapped on with a couple of bungees.
 
do you mean hanging the wheel tyre combo on the door mounted wheel carrier? If so be careful as the doors tend to crack especially off roading or green laning with the constant weight hanging from the weak frame over time. You could try stiffening it up with some plate steel or somthing else but most people use an additional spare wheel swing away carrier or bonnet mount but they have their own draw backs Jai

Yes I do mean hanging straight on the back door, I will look into a wheel carrier but for now I need to mount it on the back door
 
Check the condition of your door for rust etc and look for cracks in the steel frame usually arount the welds if its ok you may get away with it Jai
 
I have a 235-85-16 on the back door of my 110 for the last 2 years no problems so far. I only go off road at work and I take it easy if I hit a bad patch at speed I can hear the back door rattle and it would not last long if it got this treatment often.
 
as for size i had a 900 x 16 on mine before but it was a sung fit and no toy hitch I junked it for a swing away in the end to take the load off the door Jai
 
i have 3 back doors, all of them knackered due to a spare being on the back of them.

Dont bother, i'd sooner put it on the passenger seat than straight on the back door. Invest in a carrier (internal or external) or put it on the roof.

I have the same spare wheel mount as redhand an a nato hitch similar to the one in redhand first pic. Only problem with it is you have to move a lever but its not that bad Jai

if you go too big with yr spare and hang it on the door mounts you might find the door handle will be a bit more difficult to get to,i chopped of me rear door mount and i just lie me spare inside,if you do hang it on the door or on a swingaway make sure you have a locking wheel nut on it,or some thieving git will av it away
