what would win a disco 1 or a rangerover sport?

Seen my 1st ever off the road rangerover sport in a field 2day, covered in ****, towing an old ivor williams trailer it just looked wierd as f*$k! ive never seen one actually offroad and it got me thinking, are they actually any good off road? say if you had an unmodified disco1 and RR sport, put BFG all terrains on em and let em loose round a muddy track who would win in a race/get stuck 1st? and if you tied a rope to them and sent em off in opposite directions who would pull who? dunno why im askin this, just bored!:blah::scratching_chin:
 
So the new rangies are actually quite good off road? I had hoped so, i had hoped that Landy hadnt "sold out" and had just designed something for the footballers/fat jetski brummies. It just appears that the majority of owners around here use them solely for the poser factor. Whilst i drive past working defenders/discos every single day, then again if i'd spent that much on a motor i probably wouldnt want it covered in **** and scratches. Well done Landrover for "keeping it real" I've been told a lot of the so called modern 4X4s you see on the roads today are basically status symbols or glorified mummy wagons and actually quite crap off road.

the g4 ones look the business but a motor that cost that much wont be on the lanes for a few years yet.A l322 is good offroad but if i had 65 grands worth it wouldnt get muddy ever.That sed me vogue se was probbly some posers pride n joy about 15 year ago.
 
Put them on mud tyres, there may not be much in it. Put them on the tyres that the Sport can safely do 130mph on, and the Sport would win hands down. The fancy electronics are not so much to improve the off road behaviour, but to maintain it whilst using tyres etc that greatly improve the on road behaviour.
I think the Sport has more ground clearance, and certainly more wheel travel (independent air suspension) and I think it has a better wading depth.
 
Not sure who would win in the Disco-Rangie fight but I know I seen a series 3 out preform a Disco 3 in an off road quarry drive not long ago. Too many buttons and gadgets for my liking in this new modern c**p......

Gimme the levers and a proper gear lever instead of this buttons an trip tronic stuff.......
 
Ah, but what tyres were they on, and how long had it taken the Series III driver to get there?
 
lol...... Not too sure bout the tyres Davec. An the S3 driver was about 3 times the time, although all in all he got there in the end. The Disco didn't..... Hare and the tortoise....:mooning:
 
I remember the first time I went green laning in my Freelander, had to meet about 40 miles away, left late (as usual) arrived early as I was able to drive at speeds undreamed of in my Series III
 
Aye no doubt there. To be fair the S3 was out and out off roader. Not great on the road at all. The Disco 3 was on standard road tyres and the owner was just having a little fun with it. So suppose to be fair it wasn't really a true reflection of the Disco's off road ability.........
