It's either fantastic driving or a fantastic Freelander. Could be both. :D

Traction control helps loads by pulse braking spinning wheels to allow power to wheels with grip, rather than wheels without grip or in the air. The vcu would also lock up and power the rear wheels so drive is available to all wheels if needed. Add in the light weight of the Freelander with soft-ish suspension so it doesn't bounce oft the twister as it rocks from side to side, and you have a winning combination. :D

With Freelanders being so crap (that's what most non Freelander owners say), it does make yer wonder how it can drive itself out of this. Could be magic?

My Td5 will do that with its TC and with the diff lock enabled to I have the best of all worlds with it, how ever it never gets dirty and sits on massive Range Rover wheels, as I have a 300 as a toy that gets dirty and abused.

Soft roaders have there place, normally with Rav4's and Vitara's :p

yes i did it was the series :D but i do have a few now ,pas box ,easy fix have a kit ,auto box still easy but more work and ace pipe not looking forward to that ,:eek:

Put torsen rear Diff instead stock one, it's a great combination with TC :bounce:

If yours has one fitted then we'll need pic's. Surely tc would overcome spinning wheels so you wouldn't need one?

My hippo traction is far better than my D2 traction system!

weight gives traction ,thats why they used to fill tractor tyres with water,a freelanders a nice 4wd car but you cant rubbish a disco in all seriousness

How much weight is on a wheel if it's in the air? What I'm saying is the Disco makes its TC system seem less effective because of its greater weight. If they are X axled they pretty much stop moving where as the Freelander just keeps going. It was the Disco guy that started slagging off Freelanders first, saying how crap they are off road which simply is untrue as Hippo's video shows. ;)
We all know that Land Rovers regardlesd of model will do pretty much what its owner asks of it ;)

On Road the Freelander has the edge ;)
Freelander V6: 0-60 = 10.1 seconds top speed 112mph
Disco 3.9 V8: 0-60 = 10.5 seconds top speed 106mph
The Freelander will use less fuel while doing it ;)
The Disco sounds better though ;)

Numbers on a piece of paper in the real world 0-60 is pointless its the 30-70 that most driving is done. Top end means nothing when you add corner neither car is capable of cornering well enough to consider top speed unless on a race track. And offroad please the freelander is able to go offroad but it ain't in either a rrc or disco1's league! The pic hippo has up mine would still have all 4 wheels firmly planted on the ground so more traction each wheel has a larger foot print so even if my disco had 1 wheel up it would still have more traction. I've driven a standard gaylander off road and it was wadling from side to side spinning it's wheels when both discos didn't have a slight issue. So yeah standard vs standard which is the only fair comparison. The disco is the better offroader. It's built that way it was designed that way and it will always be that way. Freelander vs jap crap? Freelander all the way. The freelander is the best in its class but it aint in the same league as a disco.
 
Whats the figures of power? I mean my ancient old spluttering v8 surely can't match a healthy young v6. But when you take weight into consideration lets see how close to figures are.

Not as close as I thought it might be I did work out disco at 97 but that could be my math as I'm guessing you Googled it. Get disco. Question is would I have a freelander? As a daily run around yeah but I have no wife so don't need to justify a V8

If i had no wife and no kids I'd have a Disco fitted with the 5 Litre engine out of a TVR Griffith 500 and X axle lockers front and back. :)
