hi guys...im wanting to do a few mods to make my freelander my own, you know, just a few touches... any suggestions where to buy from or browse online?

mines a freelander 1. 05 plate(face lift),

id like to put some spot/fog lights into the front bumpers, is that possible?

also, wind deflectors on the windows, is it best to get the ones that go in the channles ? any one got em ?

chrome bars for the sides....any suggestions for suppliers...

dog grill for boot....

windows are getting tinted some time soon....

one mod id love but im sure it aint available is the vents on the side of the wings on the freelander 2, they look great...wish there was a blag/phoney vent you could stick on the freelander 1...if there isnt some one could do well i reckon if they made one...hahaha

any other nice mods youve done ? or suppliers you reccomend, im open to suggestions....

A dog guard. My dog(the pup in my avatar)would be well ****ed if I banished him into the boot to lie amongst my hairdressing gear.
I think the best mod you could do with your facelift jobbie is get an early bumper that doesn't have them stupid little lights in it,looks like a Mickey Rourke type facelift

WANTED: A new keyboard, due spitting tea over my last one after Reading this post.

Re: dog guards. If you buy one second hand from eBay make sure it comes with all fixings. If you buy a new one, Google for Travall who are the company who make the guards for Land Rover and sell directly at s discounted price.

Cheers

Blippie

You've got too much hairdressing gear for him to fit anyway :D

I'm finally getting my spoiler sprayed up this weekend and installed again which i think is a nice mod. It's only a subtle spoiler, no higher than the touregs have. Will post some piccys when done.

I've just installed some of the wind deflectors that slip into the channels, i think these are better than the stick on ones as it just looks neater.

I've also a bonnet scoop but not sure you'd want to go that far lol.

I've a few other mods as well, some a bit techie like CB radio and some for performance like modded exhaust and air intake but not sure if you meant these type of mods.

I'm with you on the mods idea freebiker, nice one. In my view it would be preferable to reduce the huge exhaust back box off the back of the freelander to increase ground clearance, at the same time adding some nice fat dual pipes wrapping around the side to make it look better. Don't know if this is possible due to emissions? Or you could go crazy with a slash cut or flush install like below...

Other ideas: Body colour wing mirrors, remove all front badging, try and chop up a Range Rover Sport front grill mesh and fit - that could look cool if done correctly.

Wheels, well largest factory ones you can fit are 18'' on 235/50 low profiles with a 30mm drop (like a Freelander Sport), however surely with a lift kit we could squeeze in 19'' or 20''.
Couldn't go off-road obviously and would get clogged up in deep snow. For off road small wheels/tyres are way better and thinner too, say down to 215/65's.

Bonnet vents, I thought an old Toyota Celica GT4 vent would look good (central), or maybe two small (subtle) vents (matt black) on the outer edge of the bonnet running in line with the inner part of the headlamps. As for the original poster's idea about bonnet vents, there's a member on this forum who put a Freelander 2 side wing vent in their Freelander (see top image below) or maybe it was a Range Rover Sport. Looked really good.

Also the spot lamps look good on the MK1 refresh (both use same housing) and the padded bull bar thing (Nudge Bar), which comes in three colours. Silver, bronze colour, and black plastic - see bottom image below.

These are a few piccies of my girl. Top one shows my modded exhaust. It sits a lot higher up than the original TD4 one and is quite a bit stronger. It's got some beefier than standard brackets on it. I often fouled the original exhat while off roading and it occasionaly fell out of the hanger.

Bonnet scoop helps to cool the K series under the bonnet and also feeds cold air to the intake.

Spotlights are wired upto my full beams. A lot of country lanes round here in Cork.

Also along the roofline i've some LED lights. Hardly ever turn these on but they're nice to have a play with occasionally off road or whatever.

You can just about see the CB radio antenna at the back.

Lovely car Freebiker, and thanks for showing us all the photos. I'd love an exhaust like that and as you said it's got better ground clearance so it's a functional improvement. I've seen your profile pic before actually, but forgot it was yours. :)

I like the idea of keeping my car until it falls to bits and therefore making it a bit more individual. 4x4's of the newest generation seem to be around £13,000+ which is way out of my league, yet for around £3,000 to £8,000 a Freelander 1 is available. So on that basis, if the car was kept for 5 to 10 years, it would be worth it and re-sale wouldn't matter so the modifications are ok, in my book.

Today I was looking at mine and thought it's a bit sad it's got drum brakes on the rear (only visible due to running 18'' wheels) whilst the new Freelander 2, 2.2 has rear discs. (I've had a rear disc conversion before. Vauxhall Calibra 4X4 turbo brakes on an MK3 astra. That was awesome).

Modding a 4x4 must be ultra rare, so few companies exist to do these wacky ideas we come up unfortunately unless it's for the superich like Overfinch.

ive seen the little cosmetic spoilers... wouldnt mind seeing a piccy when your sorted...

Decent bits are a bugger to find right enough.............and waaaay too expensive when you can find 'em.

I think you can create a more utilitarian and 'aggressive' :)o) look and keep it fairly simple along the way.

Im thinking maybe

1. 30mm wheel spacers so a decent tyre can be fitted to the standard wheel like 225 0r even 235/80

2. Possibly a 2 inch riser kit (to help the above out)

Those two alone would add three inches ground clearance, but we're at over a grand already including the new tyres  and it still wont go through water..................and it will still get stuck cos there aint no low range or diff lock

Then.............

3. Safety Devices roof rack cos its far and away the very best looking rack Ive ever seen on anything because of it ultra low profile along with some kinda roof mounted lights like the Camel or G4.

Thats over a grand again

when I add that to the price I paid for the car...............I coulda bought a Disco

Pimping the freelander in my honest opinion, would make it look a complete ****. Im from the old school, pimped motors should be able to back it up with performance and that aint ever gonna happen in a Hippo.

Then you have the resale problem (if its still alive for long enough to have one). Pimp it or make it look like an off roader (even if it never went off road) and you're gonna have a very limited market with a car with bits stuck on it worth more than the car itself.

BUT................and heres the rub...........

Wouldnt it be fun to see just what could be done eh? Money and daily transport needs no object............
