what is my engine.....

my landy has a different engine from standard.......
it has a sandwich plate and BMC on the rocker cover.
it a diesel engine, thats about all i know.
not really knowledgable bout landrovers, old fords are more my thing......

ive been told by the elder members of my family that the engine is the same as used to be used by the post office in their vans, wasnt really listening, just another back in the day story.......

can anybody tell me anything bout the engine? size, power, age, anything......

ive looked for an engine number but it is caked in crap at the moment so cant see didly squit. there isnt an engine number on the logbook either, or engine size......

sounds like a 2 1/4 deisel. used in series, london taxis and everything else made in the uk. how old is the landy?
