Probably get better results by agitating it a bit but hopefully it'll help me find one of my oil leaks:D

Put too much faith in the fool gauge and almost ran out...
I knew I needed some doozil on the drive back home after work, but didn't have my wallet, so drove past the fool station to home to get my wallet, but when I came back out of the house, the Disco just wouldn't start... not even as much as click on the starter (all the dash lights worked as expected). Anyway, after a few selective words, she finally started and I managed to get it to the garage, probably on fumes.
Note to self, fill up as soon as the fool warning light comes on, and always carry your wallet.

Weirdly I can trust my manual right below the red line where no gauge needle should ever go, I remember getting stuck in England (I live in South Wales), forgot my wallet, scraped up enough change to get over the bridge, but it was already below the red at that point, but it made it another 20 miles home... somehow. Whereas my auto... only gotta touch the red and it could run out any second :p

I don't really trust the "fool" gauge, but I only ever put about half a tank of diesel in the Disco ....... the top half!

Tales such as @Jamiegreen's about heading for home reminds me of many moons ago I had been visiting in Hereford one Christmas time. Heading home in my Moggie 1000 van on Christmas morning I was aware that the gauge was already showing empty when I left Hereford. Using a very light right foot and coasting down hills, I managed to make it to Monmouth. Remembering what my father had always told me, "If you're in trouble, ask a policeman", that's what I did. I knocked on the door of the local copper and he kindly sold me a gallon of petrol, enough to get me out of trouble. I reckon I must have got close to 50 mpg that day.

Connected up the Nanocom after the non-start issue yesterday after almost running out of fuel as it was strange that nothing at all happened when the key was turned. The engine didn't even turn over, which makes me think the problem wasn't fuel related after all.
Anyhoo, Nanocom shows no fault codes, and the car has started properly every time time since...

Well if I didn't have to sell body parts to fill the discos tank I sure would keep it full :p
Bloody hell. knock on a coppers door now asking for fuel, would probably get ANPR checked, breathalyzed and drug tested, well unless your an oldie like you are by the sounds of things

As for what I did, I looked at the various leaks and questioned why the previous owner had decided to liquid gasket the OUTSIDE of the transfer box seal instead of fixing it, noticed the ACE block has a leak of about 1ml per month, enough to leave a mark. Realized my coolant tank was nearly empty. Debated whether to get a new rear section of chassis or weld the split. Debated whether im capable of swapping the engine myself or paying 3oo for the garage. Tried to figure out where the air lines for the suspension used to go, for when I REINSTALL air suspension.... any why is that fukin ACE ram hitting the chassis o_Oo_Oo_O

Considering that I crashed and wrote off my Moggie van back in the late 1960s, and so before that, in the mid-60's, the old bill had never even heard of ANPR, they still used whistles and public telephones, the breathalyser was a plastic bag (don't ask how I know;)) and I hadn't even started living in London. Talk about "sex an' drugs an' rock'n' roll", I do remember going to a "Blind Faith" concert in Hyde Park, and maybe a bit of rumpy-pumpy, but that's all I'm prepared to say:p. I'll let you google Blind Faith, but "I was there".

Yeah, I'm what you young whipper-snappers would call a  oldie. London at the end of the 60's was a great place to be a 22 year old!

Oh, once you've made the initial investment, it costs no more to put diesel in the top half of the tank than it does to put it in the bottom half.:D

That google search just made me wonder how many drugs were being consumed back then, although LSD sounds a lot better than the sh*t nowerdays, and don't ask me how I know either :p Probably wouldn't need ANPR back then, bet insurance was a few quid and did tax even exist
You know theres a big age gap when I even had to google: Whippersnapper or "whipper snapper" is a young, impertinent person. Me, Rude? Never :p

Trust me, I've tried to keep the tank up but then I end thinking I can't be bothered to go to the fuel station, I only get nice Shell fuel, and then running it low again :(

In the past week I have stripped the lip of the inner arch at rear passenger doors back to bare metal, primed and painted. They were just starting to bubble slightly on the edge. Blasted and recoated the rear inner arches with Stonechip. Stripped the tow hitch down and stripped ready for paint and rebuild. Picking up new M16 bolts today. Fitting new rear hub tonight and will clear 3 Amigo's and hope for the best. Next job is welding new box section Into side steps to replace rusted out crap.

Sump and rocker cover gasket, oil pump bolt for peace of mind (came loose too easy with a quarter drive ratchet too !!)
Oil and filters and injector loom.
Whilst at it I found a few other things that need attention...as you do

Refurbed my steering wheel with one of those kits off fleabay. The vinyl coating was breaking up and leaving black residue on my hands. After slumming it with a £3 wheelcover and deciding against the cost of a used leather wheel I thought I'd try this first

****ty cover and damage

Kit consists of 3 bottles and 2 sponges. I lost one coz I bought it ages ago so cut up a car sponge for the cleaning

After clean, much better already

I used the black colour coat sparingly, building it up evenly over multiple coats. This is about 6 coats in

Finished article with the Matt clearcoat. The finish is different where the original material had worn away and broken up but I'm quite happy with the result. Not bad for £10 and a couple of hours faffing :D I lost count of the number of coats of black I did but towards the end I started applying quite a bit at once and laying it off with the sponge
