Hi all,
in a quest to fix my problem with having to turn the ignition on and off twice and start on the 3rd turn to avoid various gearbox and alternator messages,i took a tip from petie and removed my ECU today to clean and check the connections, and a result i now have no engine check light when i turn on the ignition and car will not start, though turns over.It still locks and unlocks from the fob and all ignition lights except check light come as they should??

Help would be greatly appreciated :frown::frown:

Car is 01 p38 diesel auto
Thanks

Sync from ECM to BECM lost you need a syncmate or Nanocom to sort it. Hope you had battery disconnected when you did that.

Needs to be resync'ed with the BeCM.....

Get hold of a Syncmate or some one close by who has one for the Diesel - or a full fat diagnostic device akin to FaultMate Extreme, Nanocom Evo, Autologic, Testbook et al....

Thanks for the prompt reply gents.

Quick update,
Called Jimsnapon to see if he could re-synch for me,but he told me his gear was on loan to a garage and would need to call them out to get it done :(
Anyhoo,i thought i would have another look and after removing the ECU again and leaning it back-still connected-to look for broken/damaged wires, i asked a mate to turn on the ignition to pos 2 and as i was playing with the wires i heard a connection being made to a relay and my mate shouts"engine check light is on" and on turning the key car fires once and not again and engine check light is flickering on the dash while cranking the engine.
I then notice that, rather than moving the wires around causing the check light to come on,it is when the metal body of the ECU is making an earth contact with ABS pump as i lean it back.

So long story slightly shorter,i ran an earth wire from the body of the ECU to the neg side of my battery and all is well,no re-synch,starting and running great:D
I can only think the earth connections inside the ECU main plug are poor, but i really do not want to go there right now.
Sorry about the length of the post but now a happy bunny :):)

Thanks Saint,
Can some one tell me if the connections inside the plug of the ECU on the loom end, are serviceable,ie , is there a way to tighten the earth connections,or should i be looking at the other end where it plugs to the engine to find the culprit?

Thanks so far guys,
Ed:)

Earth from ECU goes to E0556D on inner wing, which is at left of ECU case between it and fuse box. Check continuity to this from black wires at pins 18 and 19.
